Hello Jim and Marsha! Wow, that is some name, Awinita Kiwidinok. What does it mean? It is quite beautiful.

My dog is also finicky, or at least, his stomach did not like many types of dog food. I feed him raw meat, with vegetables. It is very much like the raw diet, except cheaper--cheaper even than dog food.

When I give him dog food, it is Innovo Evo---No grains. It seems it was the grains that were upsetting his digestion.

You have two dogs, right?

Hi Jim,

One suggestion I got from a training book is to take the food away and not offer it again until the next feeding time. Eventually hunger will when out. I had the same problem with my dog (now 9 months), I withheld food for a feeding or two and it worked without changing brands. Now she gobbles her kibble down. It sounds cruel but missing a feeding or two will not hurt the puppy. If she still doesn't eat, you may want to have her checked out by a vet.

good luck!

I should say, that now that Coyo rarely gets kibble, he just loves it. We call it "Dog Chili". I add a little warm water to make him a good gravy.

I think the advice you've gotten so far is fine - if you got the pup from Kim, it was weaned onto a regular kibble with water for gravy and to soften it - it may just want it softened. Try that. If that doesn't work, then do the take away food thing - that will work. I agree tho with Allison and James - raw food/kibble or completely raw food/bones is by far the best and healthiest food for a pup/dog. You do have to do some reseach for the pup tho to make sure there is a balance of nutrients to make sure that the pup gets what it needs.....usually tho - indian dog pups are not picky. If this continues do like Michelle says and take her to the vet!

Yeah softening kibble with water helped a lot before my Cassie got her adult teeth. They do like the gravy! And I do buy the good stuff, fortified with all sorts of nutrients. One other thing - I knew nothing was wrong with Cassie because she would take her treats, and beg for my food (which she doesn't get). So I figured she was testing me. By withholding the food and you reinforce your alpha position.

Hi, it's nice to meet you, I'm Mercedes. I have two A.I.D's, a Stumpy tailed Cattledog dog and a Xolo mix, last time I looked, all rare primitive type breed of dogs.
In all the dogs I have ever owned, fostered, babysat or taken care of, I've never seen a finicky dog before, but I've heard the dogs were finicky, but then whenever I have handed a dog a raw meaty bone, they just go balistic. They drool, they beg, sometimes their hair stands on end.
whatever diet you choose, I respect that, not trying to sell you on the raw food diet for dogs, it's just that you asked.
Just a question, you say the best puppy food but I don't know what kind that is? what kind is it.

We feed primarily raw, but sometimes supplement with kibble, then we use Newmans organic, they have bell and evans free range chicken, no hormones, not antibiotic fed, etc.
Littlestar was very sensitive to kibble, esp. as a pup,
she was like a hyperactive kid on it.
when you put a dog on raw, it is visible, the difference. I've seen old arthritic dogs lose years on them and want to play again, like puppies, and their coats get shiny, allergies and breath clear up, perfect digestion.

one day we thought we would test it out, and fed her some kibble and she got in all kinds of trouble, just crazy, like wired.

Many people think that kibble is not biologically appropriate for dogs. Dogs are scavengers, and pretty adaptable, and I think if it's good quality it is probably okay, but not the best, jmho.

sometimes we have to feed it, because we have four dogs, and sometimes it's just easier and maybe cheaper.
but you can feed raw very cheap.
where do you live?
they probably have a co op near you?
also, it's very unusual for a pup to be finicky, I would say.
how is your pup doing now.
best of luck to you with your new family member!
I love the name, can you tell what it means.
blessings, mercy, and Littlestar, Sky, Lily, and Cyrus
