I would love to know when these fascinating creatures (and their owners) will be at events near me so that I can get to know them better. I'm recovering from knee reconstruction (ouch) so can't travel very far right now, but I would very much like to learn more! I have poured over Kim's site(s) and greatly enjoyed the WEALTH of historical images and behavioral information, they are most excellently done. Thank you, Kim!
I would also like to hear from owners as to whether or not their particular lines tend to trigger allergies -- my fiance is allergic to many breeds (but not Sloughi, Chihuahua or Xolo -- our present and past canine companions).
Thank you for setting up such a spiffy forum!
Best to you and your hounds,
Rebecca

We do have owners, not too far away from you. And hopefully we can fix you up with a visit. Hope the rehab goes smoothly.
Our policy is first you must talk with Kim, and then I'm sure, he will arrange for you to meet the dogs and their people near you. Please do not post your private information, but you will be able to communicate privately to arrange a meet, when he has okay'd it.
Thank you for the compliment on our forum. Our art is amatuer, at best. If you ever feel like contributing, we will jump at the chance.
If you are lucky enough to get a pup, you will get to use the IIDOBA member forum--this is our new public arena. You are our first to try it.
We look forward to communicating with you.

Hi Rebecca
Have I spoken to you before? I am KK and have Waya and Moon here in So. CA. We are in Monrovia. Are you near? Would be happy to talk with you if you wish regarding any questions you may have about the pups. They are terrific and so interesting. If you wish, let me know your email or phone number and I will be happy to contact you. We have mini-gatherings here and nearby where you could meet other owners as well.

Some owners that live a great distance, have had to work through the interview process by phone and/or email. We have a large group of members in the Netherlands, also Belgium, France, Switzerland and England. We are learning to speak "dog" in several languages.

Do you just say Show-low?"
<teehee> A fun name, isn't it? I've heard that pronunciation, and it seems to be pretty close, I believe that it's actually almost a glottal "XZ" sound. -- but since I don't speak the native language that it came from I can't vouch for total accuracy.
I usually use it with the "Z" beggining, with "zolo" for short. Ours we actually found at the pound, listed as a "Chihuahua with a skin problem" LOL! There are actually quite a few varieties, most all from Central and South America, from tiny little guys up to a 60+ pound size.

It's fascinating that you have a Xolo, too! How's the relationship between them -- which one is the dominant one (or neither)? Are they both the same gender and similar sizes?
Thanks also for the info on allergies, it helps me with my "database." Is your AI dog a short or long-haired variety?
Wow, a Xolo party. Now THAT I would love to see! Ours is the only Xolo we know, he would probably be flabbergasted by seeing more reflections of himself.
Thanks for all the info!

our ai dog is alpha for sure, Cyrus only weighs 20 lbs. He tries though. Littlestar (our ai) kind of tolerates him and at times seems genuinely amused.

Littlestar has kind of medium length hair, I think she has some northern breed in her somewhere.

I stand corrected on that, it's actually a hairless dog party. all varieties.. We went to one before, a few years ago.
Thanks for all the info!
take care.

In dutch we call it a "mexicaanse naakthond" translated it will mean "mexican nude dog"
I never heard anyone use the name Xoloitzcuintli here in the Netherlands I only saw this difficult name in a book about dogbreeds the dutch name is there in big letters and the difficult name in small letters.
The dog is named after a god named Xolotl, so now you know where that difficullt name came from.

My husband Bob and I are proud owners of an IA dog, chocolate colored female named Halfmoon (because she has a white ring around her neck in the shape of a Halfmoon). We live in Norco CA just east of Los Angeles and north of San Diego.
Bob and I are both very allergic to a variety of dogs and most especially cats. I can honestly tell you that Halfie only triggers our allergies when she's been playing in the dirt. Her normal coat doesn't trigger them. I would liken her hair texture to that of a Chihuaha and would recommend IA dogs to anyone who are allergy sensitive to dogs.
If you look on Kim's website and check out the gallery of dogs - look for Shawnee and that is almost exactly what Halfmoon looks like. Like Shawnee, Halfie also has yellow eyes and we too are also mystified by the wisdom that can be seen in those spirit filled eyes. If you get an IA dog I can assure you that you will be never regret your choice. We never have.
Best wishes in your recovery (I had the same surgery to due to skiing - don't do that anymore) it does get better. Look forward to hearing from you.
