Hello all-
My fiance Joe and I are waiting for our first puppy from the winter litters and we are really very excited.
Just a couple questions:
1. What supplies are a MUST for a new puppy before he/she comes?
We have a crate, toys, leash, collar, tags, toys, etc. But anything else that is a must have?
2. Has anyone had their dog sent to them and that has any advice about that process?
3. How do we become full members of the forum so we can access pictures and such?
Thanks for your time!
Chelsea

Sounds like you have it covered.

In my experience, you have the unique opportunity to "rescue" your pup from that plane, and I think the pups start off so thankful, that it is almost a leg up from those of us that "take them away" from their litter mates.

We have many owners who have had their pups shipped. I am sure they will have some advice for you.

Done.

We are also waiting for a puppy from the winter litter. May we also have full access to the forum. I can see that there is a post about new puppies, but I can't see it.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi Chelsea!

It's good to hear you and Joe are getting your pup!! I wish we could have met after we talked, maybe we can get together with our pups!

As Allison said, rescuing your pup from that "big mean monster with wings" will automatically create a bond. Soul was being very vocal when he arrived at the airport!

Linda also suggested sending a t-shirt. I made a small crate blanket that we then slept with for a few days before sending in to Kim. Soul still carries it around to the point where we have to fight him for it on laundry day!

Be prepared to hear a few nights of crying. We crated Soul the first night but then put him in bed with us (hee hee), it worked! We took him out every 2 hours those first few nights. He never pooed in the house - housebreaking took about a week. Seriously.

I suggest strong chew toys. Soul had an affliction for chewing (as puppies will). We have Kong and the interactive toys (they dispense treats) and he still loves them.

Other than that - love. Pure and simple!

Congrats!!!!
