Hi,
I'm new to the forum, but 'have' an AI Dog, named Kabu. I came across her at the Medford Humane Society, and was never sure of her breed. After meeting a fellow at an Acorn gathering workshop, he recognized her as an AI Dog, which I had no idea what that meant. After contacting Kim with photos, he recognized her. Anyway, Kabu is my Service Dog, and my closest companion. We live in an apartment right now, but we get out a lot and she has friends we visit out on land where she gets to run free, until we get our own.
As a Mississippi Choctaw, I don't remember such dogs in the stories my Grandma told, but we had Catahoula's and hound dogs as one might in the South.
Anyway, I hope I get to 'meet' some of you such as it is. I'd also be really interested in finding AIDog gatherings to attend, especially as I don't think Kabu has met any of her cousins.
Look forward to getting into the forum-
Thanks,
Hoss

Welcome Hoss and Kabu! What a beautiful dog!! I'm in San Diego and just got my pup a few weeks ago. Looking forward to having you in the group and keep the pictures coming!
I raised six Labs for Service work and have a good idea how much Kabu means to you. Would love to hear some of your stories of your friendship.

Welcome Hoss! You have a really beautiful dog. And, a friend of mine had a Catahoola and she was one of the greatest dogs I've met. She was a rescue and, like you, it took my friend a long time to find out what she had. I'd take another dog like that in a flash. But then, I am a sucker for dogs in general - a dog has to do a lot to make me not like it! ;)

Nice to meet you and Kabu. I love her coloring.

Karen (and Danza and my non AID Roscoe)

Welcome Hoss and Kabu!

You have a beautiful dog there, Hoss! Welcome to the forum and hopefully we can all meet at the gathering next summer (hint hint)! We recently got our AI pup - Solstice "Soul" Son - and am enjoying every minute of life with him.

Take care and look forward to hearing stories about your adventures with Kabu!

Yes, welcome! You and I have something in common. Both of us got the last pups from a breeder before they thought they knew more than Kim. The breeder who bred my dog, couldn't wait--it must have been a money thing--he bred siblings. Your breeder decided to hybridize. Both were removed from the American Indian Dog breeding program, immediately.

Kim is very strict about maintaining the breeding methods of The Elders.

Kim also has people sign an agreement, that if they cannot take care of their dogs, they will return them. BW, your dog's breeder, let Kabu go to a shelter.

It sounds as though it was better for Kabu to find you. We all hate to see any of our dogs unhappy, or in a bad situation. Thank you for saving Kabu.

Kim told me, he hoped you would come, and see his kennels, and talk dogs with him. The invitation is still open. Those of us who have been there, recommend it, highly.

You and I have something else in common--a dog trained for hunting. I look forward to exchanging ideas with you.

Hi Allison, I'd really like to know more about Kabu's and your dog's beginnings. I didn't know that Kabu was hybridized; do you know what with? Something to do with hunting?
I tried to send you a message, but apparently I can't use the messaging system on this site.
Yes, I'd very much like to come and see Song Dog. Is there a time that is better than another this summer? Should I just call ahead? Thanks very much for the invite and I look forward to corresponding with all of you more.

Hello Hoss and Welcome!!

Just give kim a call basically anytime, And he's happy to accommodate (atleast he has been when I've called) 2 visits to the ranch so far.

Anyway I'm sure Allison will chime in, but I think she meant the Breeder started Hybridizing dogs (with wolves or coyotes) after your litter. I always wondered how Allison got her coloration since I hadn't seen anything similar at the ranch. Must've been some color selective breeding... GORGEOUS dogs... I believe Sandra had a black(ish) one as well. I really like the blue, gray, silver, lead colors with the absence of a tan mask. Just so unique.

Look forward to hearing about your dogs' demeanor.

Yes! Richie is correct!

Sorry if I did not make myself clear, your dog and mine were the last ones (litters) that were sanctioned. After that, is when both these breeders decided to follow their own ideas, forget the Elders, and were then removed.

Kim's Number: 541-597-2871. This week may be very hectic for him, but give him a call. I know he will be pleased, and be glad to set up a time to talk with you.

Coyo's coat is a hue I've never seen - Kim called it lead. It is beautiful. Kabu does look like she has a lot of blue in her.

Yes her face and socks-to-paws are black, the outer coat is black, she has buff to tan under coat, and a mostly silver belly. Without her collar or vest, she's spooked quite a few people. I've been on walks on the irrigation ditch trail and actually had people scuttle away to the far side of the trail and mumble about how mean she looks. I can't help but laugh as she hasn't a mean bone in her body that I've ever seen!

I absolutely love the "lead" color... there are a few dogs on the ranch with it. (Ice being one of them). I may have to start collecting AI's like Hummels ;)

She sure had a shiny black coat. In sunlight there was some gold shining through. Nice to hear your story Hoss. You have a great dog there with you ! His coat looks like velvet !

Here is Aiyana with a smile on her face ... ;)
