I have always wanted to be a part of this and having seen that AIDogs are a very well rounded animal I am going to get my ducks in a row even before I get mine in hopes to get thru all the criteria.

I understand that they are already fullfilling many capacities as far as service animals so this wouldn't hurt to check out for anyone who is interested.

Maybe this might interest Kim since someone in alaska is looking for.....

SAR Dog Classifieds
Title: Seeking Pup for Avalanche Training/Certification: In Alaska
Listing: Seeking a pup of a medium sized working breed to train towards certification in Avalanche Rescue. Will be part of a Rescue Dog program in a major ski area in Alaska, working and training in conjunction with a well established local SAR dog program. Breeds should be under or near 50lbs fully grown. I am particularly interested in smaller sized retrievers and hunting breeds. Would entertain full or partial donation and/or co-ownership with a reputable breeder. Dogs may be shipped to alaska after a selection process and testing conducted by a reputable breeder. I have contacts in the midwest and eastern US that can help facilitate shipping/delivery. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for this. I'll pass it on to Kim. I would love to do this. We looked into tracking lost kids, etc., but then found out it's mostly finding dead bodies. Sort of lost the thrill. This sounds more hopeful.
One could argue that evolution suggests we’re not idiots, but I would say, “Well, no. Evolution just makes sure we’re not blithering idiots."

I emailed them, about educational opportunities. Thanks again, Jamacee.

SAWEET hey keep me in the loop about it. I've dreamed of doing SAR wrk. The hard part is being able to drop what your doing and travel. So I'm still trying to figure out how to find gainful employment that will allow me to do that.....and a dog that can handle it of course hahaha

Here is another good site for info. I spoke to a man at nasar over email and he led me here. Good info in the library section.
