Hello Everyone on this board,
I'm the new guy and here is my introduction...(drumroll) j/k...I live in Ga. with my beautiful wife (brooke) we are blessed w/ 2 beautiful children our 3mo. old baby girl named Shiloh and our 8yr old son named Dakota (who is working towards his wolf badge in cubscouts right now). We are also blessed to work from home (tho I miss being a carpenter everyday I log into my computer to start sellin health insurance to humans).
I have been a dog owner all my life. Worked at vets in high school. Have had a husky, golden retriever and now my Judah for last 12 yrs. Matter of fact my wife says when ever 2 men are talking the conversation always goes to Dogs and Trucks.
Currently I have a 12yr old male APBT named judah. He has been my best buddy for a long time now. I trained him in hand signals, obedience, and in Czechoslovakian language. I always thought there never was a better american dog than amer. pitt bull terriers. Tho they are great w/ people there is always the dog aggresion to contend w/. Well Judah is gettin close to the end he has 3legs ( he was hit by a car when we lived in the city which was being driven by a veterinarian) prostate problems and needs carrying up and down the stairs since the arthritis set in. I kept thinking about what will we do when he's gone. So I have been patiently researching diff breeds of dogs out there. I made a deal w/ my wife that if we get another dog then I have to put in hardwood floors and fence in the acre in a half in the back yard. Floors are going in hopefully around february 09 so I have time and my earnest quest was to find the best all around dog.
This has ultimately lead me here. I started lookin into cattle dogs/heelers. Then that lead me towards other upcropt eared dogs and away from the molossus bully breeds. I was even considering a wolf at one point from these folks in texas who said theirs were 98%??? If that sounded funny to you it sounded funny to me too. Tho their stock was beautiful there information was thorough but didn't seem correct by scientific standards. Not to mention I just couldn't bring myself to feel totally comfortable since I have like 4 nieces and other children coming over to the house and God Forbid anything happened. I never did get pulled into the NAID hoax but I did find out about this forum and song dog kennels by researching primitive breeds. I spent last night till 2am reading "everything" even the german pdf Bwahahaha on the song dog site and this site as well. I must say everything sounds exactly like what I was looking for.
I understand that these lil guys n gals don't just go to anyone but I sure would like to be one of the lucky few. I admire these lil ones alot and they would fit right in for my outdoors related family.
Other than the three books in the webstore and whats written in all the articles on both main sites is there any other reputible place for info other than here? Like I said I have time and I am not in any rush just wanna make sure I choose wisely since it's a lifelong commitment.
Thanks Jason in Ga.

Welcome Jason! It sounds like you are having fun researching breeds, so you'll like learning about this one, too, although there is less to read about the AID. Most of the learning is the stuff you do AFTER you get one!
It's nice to see another pit fan, although you are kind of taking your life in your hands admitting to being one here. We have a very sweet pit mix, and I've had good experiences with other pit bulls. A bad one, too. I completely blame the previous owner for that - Elmer was a great dog who was ruined by a very bad person.
Our AID is a total character. And one thing that really sold me on the breed was the longevity - I hope "lifelong commitment" is a very long time!

Hello, and welcome. Kim is the expert on this breed. He's collected the old stories, writings, pictures, and research, and added his own 50 years of experience. In fact, if you read other people's websites you'll notice they took their words from Kim (some even stole his dogs). He has kept the dogs going, and the dream alive.
He does add his newest articles and research here, on our owner forum. So this is the place to come for the latest news.
If you haven't written to him, yet, you should, as he can answer your questions, and may know owners in your area.
Very funny, and very true. We also use the hand signals, mushing signals, he herds, he quarters, he points.... I don't think there is anything that I have tried to teach him, that he didn't pick up on fairly quickly.
They are a "working with you" dog. Amazingly adaptable and exceedingly smart. I also looked into hybrids (98%...
), but settled on an AIDog. You get the intelligence and the loyalty of the pack mentality, coupled with a willingness to communicate and help. Best of both worlds.
Email Kim. There may be one near you, that you can meet.

One could argue that evolution suggests we’re not idiots, but I would say, “Well, no. Evolution just makes sure we’re not blithering idiots."

Sweet I figured that was the way to go. The wolf thought made it to its end when I found out they are illegal in my state even hybrids like the czechoslovakian wolfdog and the american tundra sheperd. Since this is the case I couldn't look my son in the eyes when I'm teaching him about how important honesty and truthfulness is while having something that is illegal.
I tried calling kim a couple times but it goes to vm so I may email first and schedule something. Like I said before I'm in no rush and will be very patient about it. This is a life long commitment.
Thank you ladies for welcoming me even tho I'm not in the preverbrial "club" (yet

If you get one of 'our' dogs I think you will never regret it! I haven't, and 10 years on we are still learning both Shunka and I. Keeping one step ahead of him is difficult at times, he never ceases to amaze me though.
I would never like to have another type of dog, he is so attune to us, we can't do anything without him knowing as soon as we do and sometimes I think it's before!
Welcome to the forum, it's good to have new blood here too!
