I have now learnt that the tumour that Shunka had is called a Mast Cell tumour. apparently the one his mother had was also one of these.

My vet says that any dog, especially as they get older can get this type of tumour, or even if they are only over 2 years old.

So if your dog suddenly develops a lump, seemingly just under the skin, take him to the vet. These tumours seem to appear and grow very quickly.

The lump may be totally benign, or one of these tumours.

They can split cells and grow elsewhere if not caught in time.

They are apparently very prevalent in boxers and retrievers.

I hope that you never have this worry, but thought I would let you all know anyway.
