Indian Dogs Intrigue Local Service Dog Organization

After learning about Indian Dogs from local Grants Pass talent, Butch Martin and Linda Jennings of California based Service Dog organization, I became enthralled with this incredible dog. It is very clear that they are intelligent, trainable and loyal. As dog training manager of Canine Angels Service Teams, an Assistance Dog organization based in Grants Pass, OR. I am very excited to have two Indian Dog pups as part of our program. It is still too early to tell what fit they will have in our program but we are very hopeful they find a niche.

Canine Angels is a non-profit organization that trains dogs for disabled children. Our dogs learn to retrieve dropped items, turn lights on and off, open and close doors, etc. Most importantly our dogs are a constant companion and best friend. Our hope is that the Indian Dogs with their loyal and loving nature towards children, their willingness to learn and their versatility, will become an important fixture within Canine Angels.

One could argue that evolution suggests we’re not idiots, but I would say, “Well, no. Evolution just makes sure we’re not blithering idiots."

I think our Indian Dogs will do great with this program. My Tareva has learned all on her own how to open the screen door. We have to to put a hook and eye lock on the door to keep her in and out. Sassy has already learned that the shinny thing does something just can't reach it just yet but I know it will be soon. they both also are learning sign language. So I think this program has really lucked out to have some of our great dogs.

Speaking of doors, and our AID's being able to open them, our Ma'ii has been able to open our lever door handles for months. I do keep the locks on at all times. This past Sunday my neighbor called to let me know Ma'ii was visiting her labradoodle. I forgot to lock the deadbolt on the front door. He opened the door with us sitting in the next room and escaped. He's too smart for his own good. If the service dogs came from the August 9th litter from Scout and Abby, they are Ma'ii's siblings.
