KittynDoc 968
Today was the most perfect day- 83 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and no humidity. Off to the river we went, with Wyot. We hiked through the water to find a spot, and he LOVES doing this. Upon crossing in deeper spots, he does the doggie paddle to keep up with us- I love to watch him swim! We spotted a nice "island" in the middle, a bit rocky, but perfect,..settled our beach chairs, and lo and behold, behind us was the deepest, most beautiful pool of blue water, with cascading water down into and around it. Wyot kept crossing back and forth, finding sticks, digging under smaller rocks, finding patches of river grass to stick his nose into. His recall was terrific, no matter what he was into, no matter where he went. After eating a nice picnic lunch, we settled into our chairs for a small nap...and so did Wyot, doing a funny dance, trying to fit his body comfortably on the warm rocks. Finally, he dozed off, as did we. A little later, I decided to get into the nice, deep pool and swim...I took the refreshing plunge into the cold river water up to my shoulders...it was wonderful. Wyot stayed his distance, then crossed over, and back again, trying to figure out how to get to me, and then my hubby, who joined me. He did not want to go in as deep as we were, it seemed, so he stayed on shore, guarding our chairs. All of a sudden, I lost my balance trying to get up and go back, hubby tried to right me and started losing his footing- and who should we see swimming towards us to save us, but WYOT!! He came paddling right to us, and didn't leave our side until we actually stood up. What an amazing response that was, and how wonderfully intuitive, loving and loyal... . All in all, such a great day exploring some more, seeing some more dogs further up by another small swimming area, and he was well behaved, though we had him on the leash by this time, just to make sure everyone stayed safe. Once we got home, exhausted, happy dog took a nap where nothing would wake him for a good hour, lol!!! More adventures on the river to be had this summer as we love to hike rivers and river beds. Now, every time we pull up to the parking area, he starts doing his happy puppy howling song, tail wagging fast, and wanting to get out immediately. PS- his car "chasing" in the car has lessened...we had to resort to using the vibration on the remote collar...he was so focused, so intent, that nothing would stop him...this turned his attention to our command to "stay", and he loves when we praise him after... the collar will only be used during car rides. All it takes now is one vibration as a reminder, and the rest of the time he stays put.
