There are lots of different approaches that have worked for people. I think it is a matter of finding the right combination for the dog and owner, but I don't believe you have to live with this problem. Karen
Allison 2,369
I totally agree. Somehow there is a mixed message. You need to find the source, and change your tactic. I know with my own dog, I was frustrated several times, but once I realized that he really did not want to make me mad, or displease me, then I had to look at my signals to him. How was I enabling the behavior?

linda 19
he barks back I have been bringing him in when he starts if I am out side and giving him a time out that works for a while until something bothers him sometime he does not go back out . Shunka has never been a barker fortunately, but perhaps you can tell Snake to go and lie down, or go to his basket or whatever, if you distract him from what it is he is barking for, perhaps he will stop. Allison 2,369
Maybe try being very quiet, put your hands over your ears, and say, "Ouch, Snake,...ouch." Sometimes at my house when everyone is excited, the parrot is squawking, the dog is barking,...I have to get quiet, instead of loud. Also, I have had to grab Coyo and put my hand around his muzzle, and quietly say, "no". There is no reasoning with the Parrot....same thing, she can yell much louder than humans or dogs, so you have to get quiet to get her to be quiet. Make the purring sound. Then as soon as Snake seems to understand, be sure to praise him a bit, so he is clear, that the quiet is what you want. Do you ever turn him over onto his back?
