Allison 2,369
Hi Kim, We picked up our pup at O'Hare last night and met the family from Rogers Park also. Their pup was as peaceful and content as could be. Ours on the other hand was setting up a real ruckus! She was like a pissed off, flipped out Tasmanian Devil! We uncrated her and I held her in my lap for the half hour ride home, and for the first 15 minutes it was a wrestling match. She was so frightened and upset it was like being out of the crate wasn't enough...she wanted out of the Jeep! Then I remembered what Cesar Milan said about dogs and energies, and I began to softly sing to her...Amazing Grace...humming, ooohing, and singing the words. She calmed right down, stopped shaking, and Denny joined in and we sang to her the rest of the way home. She was exhausted. After a pee outside, we brought her into the house. We had the big crate all set up in the kitchen, and after a little "explore" she went into the big crate herself. I held the water dish in for her, and she drank some, and then I put the food/water dish outside the crate with just enough food to cover the bottom of the bowl. She wasn't interested in the food. She slept in the crate 'til about 3:00 a.m. and then woke us up. I took her out for another pee, and tried singing to her again. This time she lifted that little chin and joined right in...we are quite a duet! About 6:30 a.m. We got up, and she had left us a little gift of poo, but it was as close to the back door as she could get it. Started getting her used to a collar and leash this morning, 5 times around the perimeter if the back yard. In typical puppy fashion, she is sleeping a lot. Only concern...this morning while we ate breakfast in the dining room, she squeezed through the bars of the pet gate we installed...really don't want her to get hurt or stuck! We'll have to figure something out to keep her safe on the hard floors of the kitchen until she's potty trained (which I don't think will take long.) Our best to all at Song Dog, Dennis & Shirley
NyteByker 535
Oh how sweet! "Amazing Grace" is one of my go-to songs when I feel overwhelmed, too! And what a smart girl, figuring out on her own how to get on the other side of the gate. Shirley and Dennis will probably need to wrap the whole gate in Tape to cover the gaps. :-/ They will definitely have their hands full, but their singing duet already shows their bond! I'm happy for them. Thanks for sharing this update!!!! I'm looking forward to seeing so many more! (and sharing mine, too! )

Sherab 2,337
Another Dallas AID owner. You guys could have your own club. Very pretty girl very pretty dog. I met a very good looking young couple interested in Cake. I thought at the time that if they got one there could be too much unusual good looking ness concentrated in one space. I can't walk down a street with out getting stopped, a guy nearly fell off his bike looking intensely at Cake the other day and lately we get honked and waved at-- these people AND a dog could cause traffic accidents. I'm sure w/o the dog this is already their experience. With a dog they'll never be able to get anywhere. Sometimes it's good to be 20 past 20 . I've often wondered how many of the single people with AIDs met their significant other over these dogs. I wouldn't be surprised if there were many. Oh and since I'm old I can make these comments. Heh heh heh. I think 20 somethings aren't allowed to say such things.
Chinatola 927
I hear ya....every time we leave the house we get a comment or two. It's really funny at the dog park because there's always an influx of people coming through along with all the folks that you see on regular basis so that leads to regular questions about the dogs from the newcomers. Different times of day produce different groups of people but the questions are all pretty similar. "Wow, what kind of dog is that?" Plus there are several parks in the system so we try to mix it up to keep the interest level up...mostly for us because the dogs don't care, they just loving going to the park. It's gotten to the point where I decided to have the business cards printed up! Don't remember if I mentioned that before but it does help the process along when there's genuine interest...some people are 'oh, that's nice' and they're on down the trail but some are actually engaged and light up when I start talking about Kim & the dogs. The most common thing we hear is 'oh, she looks like a Coyote'. I remember when Lili arrived. The questions started coming. Then when Kona came the questioning became more intense because there was two of 'em. You kids are in for a wild ride...

Carolyn 454
Love all of the big smiles. Warning for new puppy owners: Be aware that even during the trying times you WILL have with your pup--you may be unable to resist the urge to smile. These dogs skillfully maintain their cuteness even when they are very very naughty

Greg 2,662
Hi Mr. La Flamme! Our baby has made it home after such a long day of traveling... And a whooollle lot of poop … once out! He already showed no fear going down the porch steps of my house, and has already peed on the weewee pads, lol. He is very playful and very vocal, and is just absolutely perfect! He arrived in IL ahead of schedule, so they put him on an earlier flight to NY, which saved us two and a half hours! My parents were awesome enough to come with us and drive us (my daughter and our puppy) home in our car so that we couldhold him. He cried for the entire car ride home, and I don't think he understood quite what a glass window is as he kept trying to go through it, then tried to make it go away by licking it. Either that or he was making window art. He tired himself out by exploring our home and playing with us, and scaring the living daylights out of our bunny when he licked him on the face. He cried for a little bit while in his cage for bed time, but I put a blanket around it and let him be. I think he fell asleep because he isn't crying at this very moment, and I don't want to wake him up by peeking. I can't wait to wake up in three hours to relieve him. And now the fun begins. It's been a long time since I've had such a young puppy (22 yrs), and my daughter is a little intimidated. So I have some training and some coaching to do. My job allowed me to take the rest of the week off, so that will help tremendously! (And as I am typing this, guess who woke up and is howling). Trying to get a picture with him is next to impossible, so here are what we managed.. My daughter and I look freakish, but our Ranger Komi is adorable! .... Oh my gosh, he is howling up a storm, Lol. I'll send updates soon! - Carmen NY
Greg 2,662
Here is a picture that I took this morning. I think I will call her Sapa, the Lakota word for black. She is much more vocal than my first AIDog Vega and very sweet. I stayed home with her today to get to know her. She is very outgoing, and really likes to be held. Did your grandchildren play with her? Paula - PA

Greg 2,662
Quote Kim La Flamme Hi Kim, I just wanted to let you know that my new puppy, Sapa, (Choco and Buff’s) is doing very well. Her personality is emerging, and I like her very much. She’s very reasonable and already understands words like “No” and “come.” Vega has always had a mind of his own and was difficult as a youngster. I think this dog will be much easier. I’m attaching a couple of pictures taken this past weekend. The second one is of me with her. Paula - PA
