LakeGirl 779
These dogs really want to keep all members of the pack together at all times. Denny took a part time job a few weeks ago and is gone for several hours in the morning. Kaposia is not happy about that. He says goodbye to both of us, and then we watch out the front window as he drives away. Kaposia becomes very quiet, and if I let her out in the back yard she doesn't want to come back in, and she doesn't want to play. She lays next to the fence by the driveway watching for "Papa" to return. When I call her in and tell her it's time to make lunch, she comes, because she knows she gets a little piece of meat every day. She hears the Jeep coming when it's a good half a block away, and just explodes with excitement, barking, running through the house, and finally to the back door to just wait to give an enthusiastic welcome home greeting. Then she's her old playful self again because everybody's home. She's still getting her morning walk, and other than those few hours in the morning nothing's changed. Wonder how long it will take her to adjust? She's just such an incredibly loving dog!

Wonder how long it will take her to adjust? She's just such an incredibly loving dog! OMG, this is exactly Wyot!!! He's like that when hubby goes to work...mopey after he leaves..then, if I say Daddy is coming home soon...his ears are like antennas, sitting by me at attention, alert, and then if he hears the garage door-well, he sits at the door, knowing hubby comes up that way, and then, when he comes in, the dance and singing starts as the greeting. SO very happy, and he has everyone together, lol!! Now that Kitchee is here, if we go out, we have to take the little one with us as in the crate, I'm afraid we'd find it upside down and all sorts of antics...so Wyot watches the house as we go out for an hour or two, and then the greeting is a round of dancing and singing, so happy we are all home! Gotta love our dogs...
Sherab 2,337
I think dogs can tell time by the intensity of light. My husband tells the dogs he's going to work and he'll be back at "snout num time" (our dog word for dinner). They know winter - spring- summer -fall at about what time to be alert for his truck and if he's late and misses the window of light change they get mopey and concerned. We text each other during the day but when a text comes during that light window they go wait.

We go to sleep early in the winter when the light wanes (as nature intends, actually), and so do the dogs- with no problems. It is wonderful when we are all in tune to mother earth...
miz molly 1,800
During the summer my pups tell me it's time to play ball....its around 5:00p.m.....as the sun changes position, and as the seasons change, so does ball play. By winter time, they tell me its time to play around 2:30 in the afternoon. As spring comes along, the time they remind me gets later in the day. They definitely follow the sun.

I had read in one of the puppy raising and training that it's also about the smell you leave in the house. They can tell that your last scent trail in the house is x hours old and after awhile they begin associated the amount of smell left with your return.

I don't know how to explain what Tayamni does.... this is just one example .... if I call home before leaving work ... my sister says she starts howling at the phone! The phone isn't set for different ring tones ... and she doesn't do it every single time. She does it a lot though. I can hear her when Kelli answers the phone. It happens more when I've told her in the AM that we'll go to Dog Park when I get home from work. These dogs are really intuitive and I think can understand our words

ALSO, if you're call has been made rather consistently at approximately the same time of day, it has become part of Tayamni's routine and your pup has connected the dots...... phone call equals you coming home soon. These pups are so smart.
