Neutering Jesse

Recommended Posts

So my Jesse is now 8 months old and he went to the vet this morning to be neutered. At 1:00 I got the call from my vet to say everything went well. He said, "by the way, your dog is more like a coyote than a dog. In all my years of practice I've never had a dog so difficult to put under anesthesia and one who came out of it as quickly!" He told me that upon awakening Jesse immediately pulled out his catheter and stood up ready to come home. He told me I could come get him as soon as I wanted so I went right away and when I arrived I could hear him howling softly and sweetly from the back, acting coyote like... haha. He strutted to the car as if nothing at all happened! He is a live-wire, completely opposite of our other dog Kai.

YUP!!!!

Nakoma's doctor didn't quite say that, but Nakoma did act pretty much the same way. I also had to bring him in two more times because he broke out of his first two E-Cones and ripped out all his stitches (thank GOD for pet insurance). They ended up prescribing him some sort of a Narcotic (that I had to have filled at a CVS... yes, Nakoma has a CVS account now) to calm him down.

In case you didn't figure it out already, the drugs did absolutely nothing for him. -_-

*Oh... and With the third E-cone, I ended up having HIM wear my seven year old daughter's underwear to make it even more difficult for him to reach his stitches. He still managed to get the underwear off.

These dogs are truly persistent! But that makes them all the more amazing!!!

Oh my goodness, Nytebiker, that's quite a story! With Kaoisia's spay, the vet commented that she was just the happiest most cooperative little thing, her tail wagging happily even as she lay on her back as the anesthesia took effect. Afterwards, as with Nakoma and Jesse, she came out strong as if nothing happened and was ready to go right away. She never managed to escape the cone, but we were totally unsuccessful trying to keep her quiet for the prescribed amount of time post surgery.

Coffey was awake very quickly and ready to go like nothing happened! The Vets were surprised and the staff commented on how alert he was so fast!

I wish that was the same for Tayamni (it was a different Vet and the spay went OK - per the Vet tech) but Tayamni came out of it in a lot of pain and ended up with a staff infection at her cervix.

In the last few months she has started to run again at the dog park just for the love of running. Her abdomen is still sore sometimes if a dog tries to hump her but she has a bare pink abdomen so I don't know if it's a scar tissue matter or just sensitive to dog claws.

Coffey had his procedure at our new/current Vet and Tayamni was at my old Vet who I was with for years before ..... I'm sure Tayamni would have had a better experience with the new/current Vet office.

I'm glad it all seems to finally be in the past.

PS Tayamni had a tee-shirt tied around her and she also got to a couple of stitches (with the e-collar cone ON). Very flexible she is!!!!! :P
