2019 GATHERING (28-30 June 2019)
Alright, we are a month away from the annual event at Lake Selmac know as, "The Gathering". As always, we hope to get as many people as possible, as well as their dogs, to this year's event. I am hopeful that we will have another fun and successful Gathering. And, of course, it is always fun to watch these AIDogs return home to hang out with their cousins.
We will be at the Osprey Loop Campground again this year. I know some of you have already reserved tent or RV sites, which is great. If you have not done so yet, we urge you to reserve your campsite early as Lake Selmac is a very popular place during this time of the year. The Annual Bluegrass Festival is taking place at Lake Selmac the same weekend. If the camp sites are all taken, there are motels in the area. For those who have stayed in Kerby in the past, the Kerbyville Inn has recently been renovated and may be available for that weekend but it does fill quickly. Grants Pass would be the next closest location to Lake Selmac with motels. It is about a 20-25 mile drive to the lake, but it is a nice and easy drive.
Currently, we expect to have two litters of puppies during this year’s event. The oldest litter will be from Little Bird X Redhawk. The second litter will be Golden Girl X Shep.
Once again, we will offer those who attended the event an option to donate money toward the food for the BBQ instead of bringing food. This has worked well for many who have attended over the last several years. So, for those who would prefer to donate money for the BBQ that option is still there. Just to be clear, there will not be a charge for anyone to enjoy the BBQ. The money donated will be used to cover the cost of the what is needed for the BBQ. Things happen and people cancel at the last minute. When this happens, food doesn't make it to the BBQ and last-minute runs to the grocery store are made. So, for those who would rather not deal with trying to go to the store or prepare something for the Pot Luck, this option may be for you.
If you are interested in donating instead of bringing an item or item(s) for the BBQ Pot Luck please let me know when you RSVP. ANY LEFT-OVER DONATION MONEY WILL GO TOWARD DOG FOOD AT SONG DOG KENNEL. The donations provided during the last couple of events has been amazing. After covering the expenses for the food and essentials, the remainder of the donations will be presented to Kim who is always extremely grateful for the generosity of the American Indian Dog family.
The American Indian Dog tank-tops and bandanas are being offered this year. If you haven't done so already, contact Christi (Tervlab) and place your order to ensure you get your items before the Gathering, there is still time. Christi may even have some extra items at the Gathering as well.
Saturday June 30th, is the main day for the weekend event. Along with the BBQ, we are looking to add another event or two. I do know that Julie Padburry plans to attend again this year and will set up a mini agility course, provide a demonstration and answer questions about agility.
I am requesting a final confirmation from everyone who will be attending. You can post it if you like so others will know you are coming, or send me a personal message. Please include the number in your party and the name(s) of your dog(s) you will be bringing. Also please indicate whether you plan to donate toward the BBQ or what item(s) you plan to bring. I will update the pot luck list for all to see. We want to ensure we have enough food and other essentials for the event. For those who are unsure how to send a personal message, just click on my picture profile (it's the picture of Anoki) which will open my profile. Simply click on the "Send Me A Message" button. Fill out the fields and send it off just like an email.
The BBQ Pot Luck will begin early afternoon on Saturday, June 30th. There is a small grocery store about 3 miles away, a slightly larger grocery store about 10 miles away, and the closest Safeway or larger grocery store is in Grants Pass, about 23 miles away.
We have reserved the Bass Shelter on Saturday for our BBQ/Picnic. There is a $100 deposit for cleaning, so please let's be tidy! I will provide more details as we get closer to the event.
