Wyot Is Growing Like A Weed!

Recommended Posts

I saw the posting of Kajika in NY, and all the pics of him...what a wonderful testimonial! I couldn't reply to it, so I figured next best thing would be to comment here, while I was updating.

Kajika is Wyot's brother (cool that they both reside in NY state), and wow, does he look like him!!! The only real difference is that Kajika has fully black ears, and a bit more black on his little face. Wyot has his mother Cree's cinnamon coloring as an outline around his ears, and in the last week (as we have adjusted his collar twice, lol!!!), we noticed a lot of what I think will be cinnamon colored fur in between his ears, on top of his head, and a little extending from the cinnamon colored spots on top of his eyes.... the same with places around the back of his neck. He also has grown longer hair by his belly, and the back of his legs, and those, I think are coming in grayish silver, from his father, Jay Silver Heels. Their temperaments sound almost identical. Wyot rings a bell at the door to go potty too!!!.

Biting has also calmed down, and if he nips, he knows to back off when I do either a hand gesture that means no, or if I say "no bite". When he plays with his dog companion at our friend's, he tries to dominate, but Cooper lets him know who's boss...occasionally, Cooper lets him climb on top of his back (he's the big lab-pit mix), and nip him on the ears, but then, Wyot submits and rolls on his back with the crazy dog look (which cracks me up!), and lets Cooper "school" him.... :P

It is amazing to watch them grow almost weekly if not daily! He is a loving, playful, very smart pup! He has adapted really well to his environment, and loves his off leash hikes with us in the woods. Wyot has noticed birds, and stops at attention to look at where they might be hiding, cocking his head to the side, one paw up. Lots of exploring, sticking his nose under the snow to follow what I am guessing are small rodent homes, bunny tracks, and deer tracks. Digging under the snow is a favorite pasttime, as it is when he happily finds a patch of bare soil! He instantly comes when called, if not, I have resorted to saying "bye-bye, Wyot", and as he looks up, he sees us leaving ( he still needs to memorize and connect the bye-bye with leaving, but he is getting it half the time). When all else fails, TREAT makes him come running faster than a speeding bullet, LOL!!!

He plays with empty, crushed gallon water bottles, as it causes a lot of noise, slides easily on the floor- making him pounce on it, since he thinks it is getting away from him! I also took an Evian water bottle (it is sturdier than most bottles) and cutting a small hole, was able to stuff two corks in it. He LOVES chasing that one too, squeezing the bottle that crinkles but goes right back to its shape, and he sees the corks inside that rattle, but can't get to them. It is one of his favorite tossing and chasing toys right now, aside from his "unstuffed" red squeaker toy.

Sometimes I worry about a bit of lethargy, but it's been mostly cloudy ALL the time, snow on and off, freezing and making an ice skating rink of the yard, which makes it impossible to run, let alone walk. I notice the sunny days, he is happier and more energetic. I also wonder, if as they grow, they need more naps :) . I do my best to keep him as active as I can in the house with tug of war, toss and catch, and chasing. I find he goes into his crate in the kitchen more now rather than just falling asleep anywhere, even when I settle in a kitchen chair, or do work in the same room. He does love to sit on my feet as I cook, though, which I only guess that he "keeps" me there, so he would be more likely to get a scrap of food, lol! Rubbing his belly is also well enjoyed and he sort of slides slowly down as if he is melting when I pet him and he is against my leg...it is so funny, because then he is in crazy dog position, wanting to be rubbed...he knows "belly rub", because he'll immediately get on his back to receive that treat if I say it!

Pictures will come eventually, as I still cannot get them to a smaller file size.......I am preparing for a show on Feb 11th (my herbal products), so I can't dedicate more time to figure it out at the moment.

Had to smile when you mentioned concern about lethargy...I remember when Kaposia reached that point, and I was worried too. It's kind of like the first night a new baby sleeps through the night and you rush into the nursery thinking something is terribly wrong, and the little honey is just sleeping along just fine! Kaposia will be two years old this coming March, and has settled into a pattern where she takes two nice long naps a day, mid morning and mid afternoon. Within the last month she has also begun sleeping in until 7:30-8:00 AM rather than waking us up at 6:00 AM. Very much like the transitions from human toddler to teen.

Yes, exactly. I remember that stage, with my firstborn! We've been lucky, as almost from the start (it took three days!!!), Wyot sleeps through the night- and we wind down around 8:30-9 pm, and he automatically goes into his crate, ready to sleep, as he knows when things are being put away, lights go off and the trek upstairs begins. Not a peep from him until we get up in the morning, and that could be as late as 7 am!!! :o

It does seem that he is taking fewer, but longer naps, rather than short bursts of energy, then lots of short naps.... :)

Even though you can't get pictures up yet, your narratives are GREAT!!!!

Good luck with your show and please keep posting the updates. I love reading about all dogs personalities and adventures!
