UncleTim 0
This week end Yoki and I went to the U. P. to visit some friends and took a little side trip to the Lake Superior shoreline. For those of you who haven't ever seen Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it's beautiful. Very rustic and sparsly populated. Well worth the trip. Yoki found a stick on the beach and decided we should play with it so I obliged her. She never hesitated at all about plunging into the water, which by the way is c-c-c-cold even in the peak summer heat. She made me throw that stick for about 45 minutes until I was afraid I wouldn't be able to shift gears in the Jeep. I'm still amazed at how good of a traveler she is. Very patient and relaxed. After a 5 hour trip up there she's ready to go for another ride to the woods or water.
judyk 43
Hi! Yes, Lake Superior is the coldest of all the great lakes!!! Next time you're coming this way, let us know. We spoke before you got your pup -- our daughter lives in Ann Arbor, so that may jog your memory too! You have to come up 75 to get there so give us a call. You can meet our three 'kids'. Of the six AIDS we've had, only one likes the water! So we're true testaments that not all AIDS are created equal!!! Anyway, next trip we should plan to meet!! JudyK in Northern Michigan

Roots 2
Great looking dog and great looking beach! Interesting that it seems AIDogs could go either way? Kim talked about how they liked to swim and said most(?) had some webbing between the paws to help facilitate that. Thanks for sharing!!

Allison 2,369
That is a great shot, you captured, of Yoki far out in the water. She looks like a skipped stone. My pup, who is very similar to Yoki, does not hesitate around water either. Kim says it's the way they are introduced, and I regret that I have to confess I made a mistake with the first one. My older dog, is a bit cautious, but now he does like to run into the water, and we have worked on it (with many a stick), and it has all been fun and good. I hope to get him swimming this summer. Nice to hear from you, Tim.

Nice to hear from you, Tim. Yoki was introduced to water in my back yard when the rain left a huge puddle behind. She would run back and forth though it so I played " get the stick out of the puddle" with her. It was pretty funny to watch. Thanks to everyone for your kind words about Yoki. Karen 41
For those of you lamenting that your dogs don't love the water, it's not all good when they do, you know! Every time Danza comes in from the woods she needs to be hosed off or thrown in the shower. Rides home from the park (or wherever there is water) are stinky affairs, and I've given up on my car. Roscoe hates the water, and none of these things were an issue until my AID came along and decided she liked water.

UncleTim 0
  ..I don't think anyone likes the smell of wet dog fur..well at least I don't! I'm not crazy about the stank but it's a small price to pay to watch her having fun. I took her to a dog park tonight. There was about 8 Husky type dogs. (chest puffed out) Yoki out ran all of them. I was so proud. I'm getting all misty just thinking about it.
