oocahtah 197
hi all just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how i can get sep from solid gold as i can not buy here in canada anymore and it is an azaming product to help dog stop eating there poop,i notice mooka did it the other day and i want to nip it in the but before it gets worse as it took me almost a year with my male sheppard who has started again and no matter what i have tried from the vet or anything natural it does not work but i know the sep does, so any suggestion would be great thanks and have a great day
Sherab 2,337
Hi Oocahtah, I had never heard of SEP but I looked on Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/Solid-Gold-S-E-P-Eating-3-5oz/dp/B000WFLVKQ Interesting. In the mean time I'd get some plain - full fat goat yogert or Kefir (cow if you can't find goat and grass fed is more nutritious than grain fed) and/ or some dog probiotic (available everywhere from Petco to Walmart). I use a table spoon of yogert or Kefir in 3 cups oats and 2.5 cups raw meat for 2 GSDs and one AID. Waki loves it and will beg for more. I FYI hear that Kim uses goat milk with his pups (you can make your own Kefir or yogert if so inclined). Love these choco- marshmallow pups. Hope you post more pictures! Waki had some vitamin deficiencies as a very young pup (puppy worms, giardia and parvo - what a tough little bugger he is). So he was obsessed with stones and other inappropriate things. I spent a lot of time in his mouth... Anyway it was nothing a varied diet (lots of bones and calcium sources, organ meats, marrow, ground kelp, etc) couldn't solve. I think that will also help with the poop thing since it will encourage a healthy gut. Also if you have to give a course of anti-biotics, step up the probiotic for a few weeks after. That's when Waki has shown unfortunate interest in foreign poops. Somewhere Gib posted on an anti giardia supplement. Been meaning to check that out too.

skg 21
I remember reading somewhere about a pup eating rocks. Is this just his teeth hurting or a mineral or vitamin deficiency?
Sherab 2,337
SKG that was probably Waki and yes it was a mineral deficiency. We gave him lots of sources of calcium and other vitamins and he stopped having obsession with stones.
oocahtah 197
will have to try that what type of vitamins did you use,as mooka seems to find rock or cement all the time and he also has decided to chew on the metal on my couch and was there a certain calcium you used thanks
miz molly 1,800
You also might try frozen rags for him to chew on to numb his gums if he is teething as well as the mineral deficiency.
Sherab 2,337
Been there with the chewing on metal too. We just threw everything at him. Added more Grizzly Salmon Oil to his food, added a tablespoon of goat yogert to each meal (or Kerfur). Star recommended turkey necks but we couldn't find a source so we went with ox tails and beef femur marrow bones. I ground up 1 kelp leaf and added that to his food. Our local farmers often have organ meats. Also gave him raw chicken drum sticks. You can have some fun and explore what's out there in Toronto. Just vary the diet and make sure he gets his chew on with something you approve.

skg 21
Thanks. Sherab: Did that not give your dog a case of the you know what's? Oocahtah: Vet told a story about a dog who ate a ton of gravel because kids had thrown hot chocolate on the gravel road. They had to surgically push it out, so be careful. Miss Molly: I think Chester is going to look like your dog. He still has the fluffy gold face with a little mask, but now his coat is black and gold and almost feels curly. He had one little patch of black on his tail when he came and I thought it was like a little birth mark, but now he is almost all that color and texture... and the sweetest dog ever:) What is your dog's coat like? Sherab 2,337
SKG, No, Waki didn't have the farts from the diet. If the diet is consistent then they won't have big swings leading to unpleasant results. Waki had giardia and Parvo out of the gate so we started out with projectile vomit and the squirts (no accidents in the house - he did a great job signaling). Things only got better and yes the vet and others warned me to really watch the stone thing because they can get an obstruction that requires surgery if they swallow the stone. He was a bit of work, my little one, but well worth it.

oocahtah 197
so had mooka to the vet for his shot and boy he is now 18lbs and 2 weeks ago he was 14lbs boy what a fatty lol,he loves his puppy food and like to share with the cats and bedtime is a chore that takes 15 min to settle down as he thinks my side of the bed and pillow belong to him,i have to push him over and then he sneaks back and slide his bum under the covers and then tries to suck up to me by licking my neck and face to distract me as his head get closer and closer to be on my pillow then when i give up and let him,he get up and moves between me and my husband then has to dig at the blankets and fall down then get up and go in circles and the fall down and then start the whole thing all over again ,boy he is such a character and in the day when he gets his time out when he starts picking on the older dog to much we put him on the leash and boy does he hate that he starts trashing around and crying like he is being beaten but the guilt trip does not work with us and after about 5-10 min he gives up and settles down ,but what a joy he is when it is time to get another dog as my gsd is starting to show sign of his hips going i will get another ai dog ,they lean so fast on how to try and con you to give them what they want but also learn fast does not work with humans,we tried the water bottle for training but does not work on him he loves it and comes running for more, but that ok the leash is working for him, well off to take him out for the last time tonight so he can dig(hence his name:mooka) have a great one all

Sherab 2,337
Hmmm. It can take them a little while if they are holding it to get to the point where they can let it go. How much are you walking him? One of the best laxatives is a good, vigorous walk. Is his diet regular? Too many chicken drum sticks can constipate. Has he picked a poop spot? Habit is your friend. Weather can impact poop comfort. Deep snow can cause an issue (how and where). Are you encouraging regularity? For example when something goes in the front end, he needs to go out because something should come out. Are you teaching him a potty queue? We use "do you have to go potty?" and an excited reaction gets "potty outside" then we remind everyone "go poop" then there is cheering for success. We still do this for our ancient ones. It's a ritual. Can your older dog "demonstrate"? I think if it were me, I'd take him for a loooooong walk this week end or in the evening until he poops then make a big positive deal of it. If you are doing clicker training use that. Yahoo answers has a few ideas: catch him in the act and run with him outside then praise the completion of the act. Save an indoor poop and bring it with you to help him go what you want, where you want. Wipe his bottom with a warm washcloth (like his mama). Good luck.
miz molly 1,800
I find that exercise helps too...throwing the ball later in the evening, THE LAST WALK BEFORE BED, gets things moving PRETTY MUCH WITH IN 5 MINUTES.
oocahtah 197
thanks for the advice we know after he eats or drinks he run straight to my bedroom,so we follow him and take him outside and he will run around like a crazy man we stay outside for at least 30 min and will tell him he needs to pee and poop and he will usually pee but not the other but as soon as we bring him in he goes and at the moment i cant take him for long walks wrecked my knee but my backyard is big so he gets a good run well i guess just have to keep on him and start all over just like potty training a kid well thanks all

Sherab 2,337
Woa! 26 lbs! It took cousin Waki almost a year to hit that mark, although he seems to still be growing. I haven't weight him lately but he seems taller when he sits on my lap and heavier. Sounds like you got a really smart one
oocahtah 197
any one know how high these guys can jump:i have a 4.5ft fence and mooka has learned how to jump it so now he cant be left in backyard without a human with him,we had to by the thing you put in the ground with the chain so we can hook him up but he can still run and play any help or suggestions thanks
Sherab 2,337
We have a 6 foot hog wire fence. No top rail. We read somewhere that if the deer can't see the top of the fence line easily they won't jump it. Might work for dogs too. JudyK has a climber. Don't know how they solved the problem. I also saw that for cats a 45degree angle along the top of the fence will deter cats jumping a fence. Don't know if that would work for a dog. Good luck. You might want to invest in a Tagg GPS tracker. Anyone know what Kim has?
