Starghoti 466
So he has finally finished growing enough to fit into his spiffy back pack. I loaded it with a couple filled water bottles (a mere 5# total weight, evenly distributed) and off we went. It took him a block or 3 to get the hang of wearing the pack, and focus.. but MAN once he got the hang of it.. He Loved It. He hunkered down, all Laser focused and WALKED - ears back, head down, toes pointed. Occasionally he would bounce up and nose my hand and give me the biggest dog-Grin. Here's a picture when we got home.. after our 3 mile walk through the neighborhood. A very self satisfied and relaxed boy there.. Next time, I'm adding more weight.. LOL ((I apologize, to those of you still buried under snow and ice, for the blooming bushes and greenery. lol))
Allison 2,369
That is so great. Coyo was the same. Once he is in harness, all business. It also helped the the people we met thought it was cool, and praised him. It is so fun to see the "working dog" working. They really love it, don't they?

And we just did a test walk at 10# and he LOVED it! I need to make a few modifications to the pack. Strap length adjustment, and some velcro holdie thingies for the buckle pads, but otherwise it's Awesome Outward Hound big pack And the green look great with his coloring and gold eyes with the green flecks.. LOL Also we got a nifty little vintage garden cart (the small kind, not the huge ones they sell nowadays) and I'm gonna rig it up so he can try carting too! Man, does this boy LOVE to work. I think I lost the paper I wrote it down on! Like Allison said......the Forum is great cause we can help remind each other lol! Thanks!!! What size worked best for your guy? Yep- so I did. I got Medium and hoped he'd grow into it- which he did Tho there is about twice as much strapping as we will Ever need.. lol
maria 182
Thanks so much for the info! Better to have too much strapping than not enough uh? lol!! Chhaya is lean and mean (all muscle).... and not as much fur as Koda....that may make a difference....I better measure them both... Thanks again for the updates and adventures...always makes me smile knowing these pups are having so much fun and are so well taken care of!!!
Starghoti 466
Did I mention we are still waiting on the scooter? Also a friend of ours gave us an old vintage (really kewl!) garden cart- which we will be cleaning up and retrofitting for dog-carting. The 'crafty things' link I posted has info on making a carting dog harness too! yay I will post stories and pictures as they develop
Starghoti 466
Got pics of the cart yesterday- just need to load them to the computer.. And our scooter shipped out! Much YAY!
Allison 2,369
Hooray! Let us know. We can hardly wait, and it's not even ours.

Hubby's the BEST! Pics of Cart and Scooter: Cart -Jasper's Helping lol A good close up of the vintage branding "What goes in here Momma?" Some Assembly Required.. JJ's in on everything that goes on. a good shot for size- (my GOSH he's grown!) We are looking forward to trying it out! And the weather is supposed to be really nice today- how convenient! Allison 2,369
Very nice! Love the blue! And the crash bar, is a nice touch. Someplace to connect to? Or is there another? Looks like a good size for him, too. You may get a really good run.
Starghoti 466
The scooter is so light, I hesitate to attach to the crashbar. LOL I am thinking between the two frame tubes coming of the down tube. Kinda over where the front sticker is. It's a little hard to see, but I think there is enough distance, height wise, between there and the front wheel. I think... We will find out.
miz molly 1,800
And the fun begins.....I just know there is going to be a great story by the end of the day. Looking forward to hearing all about it. You go JJ and show Star what a champ you are.
Allison 2,369
I see what you're saying. That's a really nice attach point. Kim would approve. Mines too high.
Starghoti 466
Speaking of him growing... Too bad he was always on the other side of Mina, makes him look little. lol (and now I have a youtube account, so I can post vids yay)
Allison 2,369
I posted it here: Jasper and Mina
Starghoti 466
Thanks Allison and We survived our first Scoot! Up and down the block a few times. He hasn't quite figured out that he can pull yet, but he is really digging running along side. and no one died.. LOL
Starghoti 466
Braved our 2nd Scoot. Much better, less messin' around, and even a tiny bit of pulling on Jasper's part. We went about a mile- far enough to get road spatter on his mud-flaps. Considering how much he loves being 'The Rabbit' at the dog park, I think he will enjoy this once he gets the hang of it. And even right now, he is loving running alongside. Much more exercise than a Walk. Once he gets the hang of it, and we start truly scooting, I'll have T get a few pics. Also- be warned y'all, it may look like a scooter, but it is actually a StairMaster on Wheels! My legs are TIRED
Larry O & Karen 0
Here are a few shots of Ma'ii using his uncle Hawk's scooter for the first time. He actually did okay for the first attempt.
Starghoti 466
Those pictures are great. We are envious. One of our challenges is I have no 'rabbit' for him to chase. And he is so proper on leash, that he thinks he Shouldn't pull. LOL We will work on him pulling things attached to the harness- around the yard and neighborhood, to help him enjoy pulling. What I need is another dog-scooterer to be a willing victim, while I ride my bike- so he can get the hang of pulling the scooter.. ah well. We are making slow and steady progress. Watch out Allison, we will win that race this summer..
