Haru still isn't eating that well. I know there aren't worms; the fecal came back negative and they gave her a mild dose just to be sure as well as she received her Sentinol over the weekend. Sunday night she didn't touch a whole lot of her food. Monday she ate sparsely. Half her breakfast became her lunch and then she wasn't all that interested in dinner. Tuesday morning she took one bite and then left the food alone. I mixed in some of the easily digestive canned food from the vet and she gobbled it up. She ate most of her lunch, leaving only a little, but then dinner was left half in the bowl. This morning wasn't any better.

In addition, last night I noticed she was very lethargic and her eyes were running. I am constantly cleaning the mucus from her eyes, something I haven't seen with her since she arrived. She also felt a bit warm. I put her to bed early with her walking right into her kennel and laying down (normally a little bit of settling and protest). This morning she doesn't seem as warm and was a little more energetic, but she is still not eating well and is runny in her eyes. I'm calling the vet when they open to talk with them about it. This is my first puppy to be 24/7 involved with and I'm a very worried mama.

However, I wanted to see what y'all thought. Here in Texas we are beginning our pollen season early this year. The Bradford pear trees where in full bloom Monday until we had a cold gust blow back in that night. I have allergies right now so maybe she does too?

There's no vomiting and her stools are only slightly loose. There also isn't a cough. I'm very hopeful that it isn't Parvo or Paroinfluenza. I will be going home at lunch to check her condition after I've talked with the vet. Thankfully Matt will be home and keeping an eye on her today.

Dear Haru...sorry you’re not feeling your best. No doubt you have doting parents so things will get better.

While Waka’ will be 3yo soon I have noticed on rare occasion her eyes will weep. This is an allergic reaction to certain pollens and/or fungi-mold spores. Spring ‘tis the season for this occurrence.

As far as food goes, Kim recommended Meyenberg’s powdered goats milk as a complimentary “side dish” to kibble. Great source of Calcium. To this day I still give Waka’ goats milk. As you’ve well discovered there is a plethora of choices when it comes to kibble. I use Taste of the Wild, High Praire. Bison is main ingredient. $50 for 40#. Or you can spend over $125+ for Orijen. I also sprinkle a small amount of shredded cheese on her kibble, optional.

Oh, my, Samie, my heart goes out to a fellow puppy momma!! I know the worry only so well. If it is pollen season, then weeping eyes are the norm- come spring, I expect both dogs will have that going on, since last year, when Spring came, Wyot's eyes were constantly weepy, and he was a bit under the weather- nose was warm, a bit of lethargy, and picky eating. I do think this is because it is a lot for such a small puppy body to absorb...think about how we humans feel with allergy problems! I know I don't feel hungry and I'm miserable if my eyes weep and feel stuffed. I am sure it will pass...but keeping a vigilant eye out, as well as contacting the vet just to be sure is a good idea.

I like Forrest's suggestion of the Goat's milk- as I said, I soak raw oatmeal overnight in the powdered Meyenberg milk, and both dogs LOVE it. I also added some melted coconut oil- TBSP for the big dog, and a TSP for the little one- as well as a little bit of chia seeds- 1/2 tsp for Kitchee, and 1 tsp for Wyot- mixing it all up with their dry kibble, which is Acana dry kibble- the heritage meats version. The coconut oils makes food SO palatable, that they lick the insides of the bowl clean, LOL!! Chia has healthy omega 3 to balance out the omega 6's in the coconut oil. Their stools are very healthy, so I'm told...and I can see they are firm, but easy to pass, no worms. :)

Aren't we lucky we have the forum to come to for help? :)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and concern. I don't know how other people handle the concerns and stresses of a dog in general without a place like this. I guess it's easier when you have a popular breed.

I did end up taking Haru to the vet. They did a Parvo test which came back negative and said she may just be a bit of a picky eater with an upset stomach. They gave me some probiotics but told me to avoid the dairy for now as that could actually cause some more issues. I will give it a try when all of this settles down. They also gave me three cans of ID digestive wet food as well as samples of 3 dry kibbles for GI to try. At least I never leave empty handed.

As for her eyes, they said she probably got a little bit of pollen in them from our walk yesterday and told me to keep them clean with a wet washrag.

Thankfully they were very understanding of my worried momma-ness. I've waited six years to have a puppy; a year and a half specifically to have this breed (decision making time to settle on AIs as well as the wait time and moving time for me). They told me to continue keeping a watchful eye because we are still at high risk of Parvo; especially in this college town with soooo many dogs.

Her temperature was normal when they took it this morning, although I still think she had a slight one last night. When I felt inside her ears last night they were hot. When I felt them this morning they were cool.

Thankfully, all is well now and she is mostly playful and interested in what's going on. I stayed with her a bit longer than I should have after the vet (I needed to get back to work, but they can wait Haru comes first) and made sure she was really settled in before I left. Hopefully no more scares for awhile; I'm on pins and needles right now with her not having the full vaccinations.

Hope all turns out well for Haru. As to the eating habits, Kaposia is very different than out Golden Rretriever was. The Golden would snarf down the food as if it was the last on earth and there would be no more. Kaposia is a nibbler, and often leaves third to half of the food in her dish. Sometimes she will go an entire day without eating. The vet says some dogs are just like that...irregular eaters. We change up what we mix in with her food for variety, and she's very healthy. Haru obviously has a few problems right now not feeling well, and the time pre-full vaccination is a worry, but the irregular eating may turn out to just be a normal pattern.

My dog Jesse (1 year old) quite ofter feels warmer than my other dogs. He even feels feverish after a good play or long walk, he gets a dry, warm nose and hot ears too. My family thinks I'm paranoid about it, lol, so I get the concern about a puppy, just keep an eye on her and if something doesn't feel right see the vet again… motherly instincts are sound. ;) Also, sometimes dogs get a bit sickish after vaccinations, my indians are very sensitive to vaccines, even rabies.

Thanks y'all. Glad to report that after a few days of mixing in the canned food with the probiotics we are now having solid and consistent pooping. I'm going to start introducing the mixture Kittyndoc recommended and if she handles it well switch to that fully when we run out of the canned stuff. I think the dry kibble just isn't appetizing enough by itself. Oh well, I don't really mind taking the extra step.

I'm so relieved to hear your babe is doing better. Another trick to keep in mind (used on previous dogs) homemade chicken broth made with the carcass (no salt) cooked with carrots, a bit of rice, a little bit of chicken. Worked like a miracle on mine, took her out of the hospital and nursed her back with it.

Coffey used to get that dry nose and heating up and panting for a long time after just some good running. I even had him tested for Exercise Induced Collapse - he's NEGATIVE - Yeah!

He wouldn't go in the dog pool to cool off so I bought a cooling vest for him that worked pretty good. Finally when he was 2 yrs he decided to start cooling off in the dog pool at the park!

Tayamni cools off a little quicker (and uses the dog pool a lot when running around).

Tayamni didn't have a problem with puppy vaccinations ...... she does have a sizable reaction to the Bortadella vaccine!!! She gets a Benadryl injection before getting her Once a year Bortadella Update, she still has reactions (like she has kennel cough) but gets over it. This year she got Pink Eye after having a small cough for weeks. She even gets a slight cough when Coffey gets vaccinated (2 x yr) if I don't give her a few days of Benadryl.

Coffey on the other hand has NO issue at all with vaccines!

I check ears, armpits, nose, etc. If it feels like she gets a fever or coughs any liquid - it's off to the Vet.

I would call us "vigilant"

Samie, Glad to hear that Haru is doing better!!!!!
