INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE PENDING REGISTRATION

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR DOG

The cost of registering your dog was included in the cost of your pup, so it's just a matter of doing it. By registering your dog, we can always use the registration information and the photographs on file with our registry to help prove a dog is yours if it is ever lost or stolen.

Registration is taken care of by Song Dog Kennel. Owners should send in the pending registration papers when the puppy is under eight (8) months of age in order to avoid additional registration fees. Any registration submitted after the dog is eight (8) months of age will incur an additional cost and you must send proof of spay / neuter.

The pending registration paperwork for your American Indian Dog puppy needs to be filled out completely and returned to Song Dog Kennels in a timely fashion. Early registration is encouraged and is free to the new owner. Registration cost is $25 if the puppy is between eight months and one year of age. Registration cost is $50 if the dog is over one year of age.

Kim recommends spay/neutering at 6 months.

So to recap:

Registering your spayed/neutered dog by 8 months of age will be free and included in the price of your pup.

Registering your spayed/neutered dog between 8 months and 1 year will cost you $25.

Registering your spayed/neutered dog after one year will cost $50.

REGISTRATION PROCESS:

Once SDK receives the pending papers and the photographs, the dog is registered with the American Indian Dog Registry and then everything is forwarded on to the International Progressive Dog Breeders' Alliance (IPDBA) along with a selected photograph of the dog, which will be imprinted on the pedigree.

IPDBA will mail the final papers and a five (5) generation pedigree to the owner.

NAMING YOUR PUPPY:

On the pending registration form, you are allowed two name choices. The registered name will always include "SONG DOG KENNEL" as the first part of the registered name. You are allowed up to sixteen (16) spaces for the remainder of your registered name. Spaces between words, apostrophes and hyphens are counted. Your registered name needs to be unique as we cannot register two or more dogs with the same name. You can call your dog whatever name you like, at home, but the registry name must be unique.

Again, puppies must have a "unique" name. For example, the registry probably won't let you name your puppy "Lady," because it's already taken. But you might get "Blue Lady" or "Lady Godiva."

Please understand that names like Lakota, Dakota, Cody or Kodiak no matter whether you spell it backwards, sideways, or anyway has already been done. There are so many more tribes and cultures than Lakota and Dakota and many more animals than Kodiak Bears. Please try to be a little more original.

Please make your second name choice completely different than you first choice. A lot of times, owners have a certain name in mind and will choose the second name which is very similar to their first name choice. Chances are that if the first name choice is already taken, and the second name choice is similar to the first name choice, that second name is probably already in the registry too.

PICTURES OF PUPPY:

The pending registration form asks for a total of three (3) photographs of the dog. Two (2) photographs of the right side of the dog while the dog is standing. The two (2) right side photographs need to include the standing dog's head, feet and tail. The third (3) photograph needs to be of the dog's head and close enough to show the color of the dog's eyes.

Now for those of you who say, "There is always an exception." The exception is for the photographer and the dog who loves to pose for the camera. It is possible to submit a photograph of the right side of the standing dog with the dog's head looking toward the camera showing the color of the eyes. This single photograph must be of the dog only and show the dog's head, tail and feet. This type of pose is sometimes difficult to accomplish with an excited puppy. It would most likely be easier to just take the three photographs as discussed above. If you can accomplish this shot, please send two hard copies of this photograph.

All photographs submitted must be of the dog only. Please do not submit photographs of you or someone else holding the puppy. Although the picture may be extremely adorable, if it does not meet the above mentioned criteria, it cannot be accepted as a registration photograph.

Most people use a digital camera or smart phone camera. These are wonderful tools which allows for hundreds of photographs without having to develop film. Unfortunately we cannot accept digital photographs. Many stores have photo centers which will allow you to print a photograph from your phone or digital camera. Another option is to use a photo quality color printer, if you have access to one. If you opt to use the printer, it must be on photo paper and a very clear photograph. Again, please do not email the photographs or send a compact disc with the photographs. The photographs must be hard copy only.

** A point to remember. The best right side view photograph will be imprinted on your pedigree, so keep that in mind when taking a picture of your dog.

NOW WHAT?

1. You have selected two unique names for your puppy, so using capital letters, clearly print each name in the appropriate spaces provided on the pending registration form. One letter per space. Remember, spaces and symbols are included in the sixteen (16) spaces.

2. Select the appropriate fee. If you are registering your puppy under eight (8) months of age, your fee is free. If registration is between eight (8) months to one (1) year, fee is $25. If registration is over one (1) year, fee is $50. If a fee is required, make out a check or money order for the appropriate amount.

3. Complete the information at the bottom of the Pending Registration form. Please print clearly.

4. You have taken over one hundred photographs of your puppy trying to get the perfect pose. Select two photographs of the right side of the standing puppy. Ensure the picture shows the puppy's feet, head and tail and is standing by itself. Next select one photograph of the puppy's head which is close enough to show the color of the puppy's eyes.

5. Insert into an envelope the original Pending Registration form, a check or money order for the appropriate fee, if required, and your three (3) photographs of the puppy you are registering. Ensure there is enough postage on the envelope and mail to:

If you still have questions about how to complete the Pending Registration form, please reach out to the American Indian Dog forum first and you will probably get your answer. If that does not work, contact Song Dog Kennel. We want to ensure the registration process is a smooth process. An incomplete registration form and/or unacceptable photographs cannot be processed and will result in the entire packet being returned to you which will only slow down the process.
