Will Gibb says he didn't realize it was a cougar that had caught his beloved pet husky by the neck until after he pummelled the wild animal in the head.

"I wasn't really analyzing it too much at the time," Gibb said. "All that was going through my mind is that I had to protect my dog.

"It was just very instinctual. My dogs are like my children."

More here.

Oh wow!  What a story!  I am glad that the guy and his two dogs are ok, and that Sasha's wounds are not life threatening.  I'm sad the cougar was killed, but this could have ended in a much worse way had the guy not fought for his dogs.

I'll most likely never be in that situation, as the only predators we have here are sharks, and they never attack here (yet).  But I love Nakoma so much that I know I would risk my life to save him if we were ever in a situation like that.  I'm certain it's all instinctual to help and protect.

Still, an amazing story!
