A Christmas Story For My Dear Friends On The Forum

Recommended Posts

Dear friends,

I wrote this story 2 years ago. Unexpectedly my computer had a solder problem with the mother board and died. Apple in their infinite wisdom fixed the problem and then proceeded to discard my hard drive, which was functional and due to the sudden failure not backed up. They didn't ask, they just thought they knew what would please me. So w/o so much as a word to me they threw it out and gave me a new one. I was not pleased. So I recreated the story last year. I am hoping that my mother will eventually illustrate it. She has some age related health issues so until she tells me she isn't going to do it she has as long as she wants. Since the story is complete but the illustration work might be a decade in coming I thought I'd go ahead and share it with you all. I hope it makes you laugh. The Dogs that Saved Christmas.pdf

LOVED the Christmas story, Sherab! Photos were great too...would love to see how your Mom illustrates from them. Kids would love the story, and adults (at least this adult) loved the social commentary humor that built near the end. Thank you!

Thanks Lake Girl. Mom did a few sketches that were great but she didn't think they were good enough. I think artists are always hardest on themselves.

Anyhow these dogs are special and seem like characters from a beloved children's story so i thought I'd tell the story of my two silly goofs.

Reading it to my dogs! Tayamni very interested in Chapter One, hearing about Cake Dolly, then I think she realized that Coffey gets all the attention and she's not under his spell - lol!

We've stopped after Chapter 2 for the night. Will read more of the adventure tomorrow!

Sherab, still wondering when you are going to publish your work. It's all so wonderful.

Thanks Mol. I will probably self publish someday. This one in particular I am happy to wait on. I'm not sure the time is right for the message be true to who you are and be humble, as I have wrapped it, would be well received by half the population. Today I fear it could be interpreted as anti- immigrant or anti-multicultural with themes of misogyny and colonialism or something. It has absolutely nothing to do with these themes but one has to be careful with symbolism and cultural timing. Take Fan Fare for the Common Man. An epic, timeless work. And yet on my FB feed I saw a whole thread about the "common man" part. Apparently it's gender insensitive and written for Trump supporters or something. Granted some of the folks were making fun of the whole hypersensitivity thing, while others were not. December already having been Santa is the patriarchy month, or something. I'd write a comedy parody of this sort of thing but how can I, it steps up to be over the top and defeat any Onionisms I can come up with. Besides one wonders if it's wise to give any ideas out. About every 10 years the culture changes so I figure we are about due for the end of this swing. At least I keep looking at flappers, cars with fins, flower children, 80's big hair and telling myself that. Hopefully Santa will survive in the culture and still be the beloved symbol of grandparents' love.
