A very sad story from Switzerland to share on forum – Peter & Alex came here last summer & brought a pup (Mora) back home with them to Switzerland. They already had an older 14 year old AIDog Coydo that they traveled the world with. Last summer they hiked the Appellation trail and all over Mexico. I kept Mora’s brother Rusty for breeding …. he is also very happy, hanging out riding on the quad with me, chasing turkey’s & deer from the vineyard, living in the house … “with cats!”. We all grieve with them, sharing their loss & hope we can get them another pup soon – Give your dogs a hug – thinking of sweet Mora -

Hello Kim,

Hello Greg,

Since a long time, I wanted to write you to tell you what a beauty Mora is, and how well we progress. As it is, I postponed it, so now I have to write you, after she is gone. Mora died as a result of an accident last Saturday. She had a wood stick in her mouth, appearently it was too heavy and got stuck on a rock. I was walking with Coydo, (always in the front) on a rocky narrow path and I was alone. Mora was behind me, so I did not see exactly what happend. I suppose that she got the stick, very unfortunatelyjammed onto her chest, as she was carrying it from one end. The lounge (breathing organ) lost the air and she had internal bleeding. It was very, very short and she died immediately, with one loud scream. At the animal hospital they did an Xray and told us how she died.

Peter and I are very, very sad. I did enormous progress with training her. I was going to a dog school to people who are training dogs for catastrophic rescue, and herding our cattle, so they are experienced people, who also know the education system of Cesar Millan. So, you see, also here in Switzerland I found people who are training the dogs like you do, and recommend to new owners. With this training programm Mora did a lot of progress. I almost had no issues anymore with her. It was also incredible to me to see, how much she liked to work. In almost every situation she wanted to work and take care of everyone, with a great sense of hummer. Also, when I was walking her outside, she used to carry something in her mouth, see, she liked to "work". So also this bloody stick was her "working task"!!!

We want to let some time go pass, but Coydo is getting older and older. He has troubles to walk far distances, and his hips worse and worse. To have a dog like Mora, with the happy, friendly, good-natured energy from her mother Little Bee, has made our family happier and kept Coydo younger. We miss the little sunshine a lot. As I said before, we want to let time pass but we also take in consideration to get a new puppy from you. We do not know yet how to manage it with working to come over, but, when time is right, it will work out everything.

Greg and Kim, I really want to thank you, that I could have this chance of those few months to learn correct training and get to know this breed better and to learn to love this breed from all my heart.

I hope to hear or to see you soon and I hope that everything is going well with your dogs. How is Rusty?:-)

Big hug

Alex and Peter in Switzerland – working on our cattle ranch in the Alps -

Thank you for posting about her. What a tragedy. Unbelievable loss at a young age. Mora must have brought a lot of joy and love to people for this freak accident to be her 'time'.

My heart aches for Alex, Peter and Coydo. I can't imagine the depths I would fall.

My prayer is for the memories of Mora and their time with her to bring JOY to their hearts!

I hug Tayamni when I get home anyway and this day will be an extra long hug!

I used to make a joke to my friends, "Why do we stop our children from running with sticks, but we encourage our puppies to do so?"

I love to muse on the point that we expect more from our puppies than we do our children.

It might be a while before I can enjoy that joke, again. This is very sad.

I know it is always difficult to talk about a loss such as this one, but I do want to thank the people that tell us about their terrible accidents.

They make us better owners.

I won't forget this one.

I won't forget the family that opened the car door facing the street, instead of the car door facing the sidewalk.

I won't forget that quick trip to the store, the dog always rode with you, so when you drove off he was out the gate, trying to catch up with you.

I won't forget.

I will keep checking on my pup. I will always open the car door facing the sidewalk. I will teach and tell them to "stay" and make sure the door/gate is closed every time I leave. I will remember that stitches that are healing, begin to itch towards the end and that the cone needs to stay on until those stitches are removed.

I am very sad for your loss. We will howl for you.

Couldn't finish the read.......my three and I went out under the redwoods and gave a long low howl with lots of tears. So sorry to hear this. The hurt goes deep when one relates it to our own.
