So years ago, I found these DC's....then I went to Song Dog to pick up Tolinka and they were playing on Kim's outdoor speakers. When I got home, I put them on in the afternoon for a bit of "quiet time." It worked.

"Tribal Winds"

"Native Spirit"

"Cries from the Earth"

Since then I have added a few to the list:

"Polar Shift"

"Cousteau's Dream"

"African Lullaby's"

a bit of music by Putumayo

a bit of Yanni

a bit of George Winston

a bit of Hawaiian Slack Key by Bob Brozman

All are instrumentals ...well except for adding Israel Kamakawiwo...

...........................because I love his rendition of "Some Where Over the Rainbow."

...........................because his voice is an extraordinary instrument and I adore Hawaiian music as well.

I still put this playlist on for Two Step and Rain and Tolinka. They doze off to a hazy afternoon....while I play in my art studio.....everyone's happy.

I would love to hear about your music that you play to calm things down.

When Tayamni was a wee pup, I had on hand on bunch of CDs, and we still listen to the music ......

(don't we always have to listen to our parents music when young?)

Robert Mirabal (flute)

Dave & Steve Gordon "Sacred Drum Visions"

"Dream Catcher" & "Spirit Feathers"(Various native flutes artists)

"Lifescapes - Forest: ( I think I got it in Target as part of their soothing music collection)

I think this one had some thunder sounds in it - so I started on low with those nature CDs and increased volume so she would get used to it. Don't know if it helped, but she is NOT afraid of thunder!

Then of course she listened to 'Lone Star Drum's' CDs volumes 1 thru 6! (available at www.southgatemall.net )

YES - an unbashful plug for my tiyospaye drum group!

Of course we listen to Leonard Crow Dog, Jr. Cd's,! (native flutes)

the first two I have are great for her, but there is one song on the latest CD that makes her whine a little bit when she hears it.

Whines are part of her vocabulary - so not sure if it is bothering her ears or if she is just responding to the sound.

(I just turn that song volume down when we get to it - still listenable and she quiets)

Funny, Bonne heard the same song in Texas and he didn't have a reaction at all!

I just had a conversation about this piece, this morning, with some musicians, over coffee.

If we have to shoot a time capsule to the stars to preserve the legacy of humanity, I think we should add this song.

Huge fan of the slack key thing....actually just starting to experiment with the whole tuning structure & working out rhythmic patterns & melodies in this style. I'm a bluesrock player so this a fairly challenging thing for me... Fell in love with slack key on my first visit to the islands in 1973 as I had only just been playing guitar for a few years at that time and have been captivated by it since...

One of my favorites:

Ledward Kaapana

Kaapana & Brozman this time:

Kaapana solo this time:

in searching for examples I stumbled on this...

Hey China,

Bob Brozman lived just around the corner from me here in Ben Lomond. An amazing guitar artist. Unfortunately he has crossed the rainbow bridge. His music is incredible, especially his slack key. They are still selling his CD's on his web site if you are interested. He had one of the most extensive private collections of slack key music in the world and was great friends with the families in Hawaii that are the "keepers" of this music. His talents will be greatly missed. He was a global musical genius. FYI, the next time you are on Maui look up George Kahumoku Jr. He does slack key shows at Napili Kai every Wednesday night and brings in other slack key artists. Really a great show. Good luck learning the slack key. :D

Yea, I'm familiar with Junior, he is a wonderful performer and a great slack key guitarist as well. Didn't realize that Brozman was gone, that's too bad.
