Wyot Gets A Baby Brother- Kitchee!

Recommended Posts

Another AI dog chapter starts in our household!!!! SO exciting, and despite the late hour of hour homecoming (around 1 am), the meeting between the two was pretty flawless.

The flight landed an hour early, and Kitchee (sounds like - Kee-d-chee, meaning brave) was pretty vocal as they carried his crate towards us. Poor guy! Overwhelmed, long long flight, but no soiling in his crate at all. There were no grassy areas at Newark airport in NJ, and he wouldn't do his business....off we went, and he settled quite nicely on my lap in the car. I had a toy, which he played with briefly, and then, he lulled to sleep! We were ready to pull over once we crossed into NY state, but he slept and slept, all stretched out and comfy on my lap for the whole 2 and half hour ride!!! Once out in the driveway, poor guy took the longest pee I've ever seen a puppy take....

We put him back in the crate before we entered the house, and let Wyot listen, sniff around and bark a bit...but all with tail wagging. He did try to keep protecting me once we let Kitchee out, and let me tell you, Kitchee held his own with Wyot! He is not afraid of his big brother at all...We crated Kitchee for the night, and there came the heart wrenching high pitched cries...hard, no matter that you know you have to let him. Wyot barked a bit at first, but then settled and slept in his usual spot in the living room. I finally fell asleep after taking Kitchee out to do his business one more time...and it was 5 am. Up at 7:30, and hubby had taken them out together, which he reported was really great! They romped together in the field behind our house. Feeding, however, is another kink we have to work out. Kitchee will just eat his food AND Wyot's LOL, and Wyot LETS him!! (any advice here would be welcome).

They had a tug of war, a fun tumbling session and overall fun so far. I've got it on video (which hopefully I will share if I can figure out how to get it from my phone to here). Finally, both passed out in seperate rooms (they did this, not us)...which is how I can share this with all of you!!

More fun to come, and looking forward to hearing about his litter mates!!!

Ahh you have a Hoover! (a Vacuum Dog). I know of a few!

Glad to hear all is going well and I hope this helps Wyot's cabin fever!

Welcome Kitchee!

LOL! Hoover dog...yep, that's Kitchee. It is DEFINITELY helping Wyot's cabin fever! The two of them wrestle, play, tumble and when they tug, Wyot gently drags him along and the squeak of the toy is a delight to both of them! I'm amazed at how well they play together! They crack me up...currently, two exhausted dogs are napping. For now, they nap in seperate places. Wyot likes to come and poke at Kitchee when he settles at our feet to nap (big surprise- "these are MY mom and dad!")...interloper, I'm sure he thinks.

I have asked him to help, and when Kitchee went under our big truck, he chased him out of there and lead him to the play area where his tossing stick lays. Good big brother.... :)

Awww. Cant wait for the pics.. You can crate him with his food, crate him and make a point of feeding Wyot first or use a baby gate to separate the two while they eat. Better to start than now then to press Wyot into defending his stuff after the honey moon. Make sure you put your fingers in his food and his mouth. Be mindful of Wyot and possible needs for "me" time away from the pup and "his" things. It may never be an issue or you may need to teach the pup this is yours and that's Wyots because you say so.

So far, they seem to be sharing. Bully sticks, they interchange. But, yes, I make a point of separating their toys, feeding bowls, and I will figure out the best way to feed them .perhaps when Kitchee passes out, then I can feed Wyot, when he feels the attention is all his. Right now I've got the exhausted "mom" syndrome, so the brain is trying to do the best I can, lol!!!

So appreciate all the advice!
