2017 GATHERING (7 -9 JULY 2017)

Alright, we are just over four weeks away from the annual event at Lake Selmac know as, "The Gathering". There has been another great response leading up to this year's event. Many of you responded to the "Planning For The 2017 Gathering At Lake Selmac" post back in February and I thank you for your input. We locked-in this weekend as the best weekend to get as many people and dogs together as possible based on those responses. I am hopeful that we will have another fun and successful Gathering.

We hope to get more first time AIDog owners this year. A few who are currently on the waiting have indicated they plan to attend this year's event to join in with the festivities and pick the brains of some of the current owners and, of course, watch these wonderful dogs interact with each other.

We will be at The Osprey Loop Campground this year. I know some of you have already reserved tent or RV sites, which is great. If you have not done so yet, we urge you to reserve your campsite early as Lake Selmac is a very popular place during this time of the year. If the camp sites are all taken, there are motels in Grants Pass, which is the closest location to Lake Selmac with motels. It is about a 20-25 mile drive to the lake, but it is a nice and easy drive. For those who have stayed in Kerby in the past, I have just learned that the Kerbyville Inn is closed until further notice. I am not sure what the reason is.

SDK still has a few retired breeders and Kim is still looking to match retired breeders with current or prior AIDog owners. This would be a good time to see the dogs up close and discuss possibilities with Kim. Currently, there is one small litter of pups (Wind Walker X Tonto). These pups will be ready to go to their new owners at that time. We have also made a few other breedings for those on the waiting list. Come see the parents of the summer litters.

The last couple of years we offered those who attended the event an option to donate money toward the food for the BBQ instead of bringing food. This seemed to work well for many. So, for those who would prefer to donate money for the BBQ that option is still there. Just to be clear, there will not be a charge for anyone to enjoy the BBQ. The money donated will be used to ensure that we have everything we need for the BBQ. Things happen and people cancel at the last minute. When this happens, food doesn't make it to the BBQ and last minute runs to the grocery store are made. So, for those of you who would rather not deal with trying to go to the store or prepare something for the Pot Luck, this option may be for you.

If you are interested in donating instead of bringing an item or item(s) for the BBQ Pot Luck please let me know when you RSVP. ANY LEFT OVER DONATION MONEY WILL GO TOWARD DOG FOOD AT SONG DOG KENNEL. The donations provided during the last couple of events has been amazing. After covering the expenses for the food and essentials, Allison and I will present the remainder of the donations to Kim. Kim is always extremely grateful for the generosity of the American Indian Dog family.

EVENTS

This year, we are happy to have Brian Carvalho attend our event. Brian provides a wide range of dog training services but his main focus is in canine nose work. Judy Leavitt and Sandy Mays (Canine Angles), both from Grants Pass and with AIDogs, have participated in the training that Brian provides. They both recommended this training and we believe it would be a great opportunity to show off one of the many qualities of these dogs. Thanks Judy for suggesting this, I think it will be great. www.pawsitivedogofsouthernoregon.com.

RSVP

I am requesting a RSVP from everyone who will be attending. You can post it if you like so others will know you are coming, but please send me a personal message and include the number in your party and the name(s) of your dog(s) you will be bringing. Also include whether you plan to donate toward the BBQ or what item(s) you plan to bring. I will update the pot luck list for all to see. We want to ensure we have enough food and other essentials for the event. For those who are unsure how to send a personal message, just click on my picture profile (it's the picture of Anoki) which will open my profile. Simply click on the "Send Me A Message" button. Fill out the fields and send it off just like an email.

The BBQ Pot Luck will begin early afternoon on Saturday, July 8th. There is a small grocery store about 3 miles away, a slightly larger grocery store about 10 miles away, and the closest Safeway or larger grocery store is in Grants Pass, about 23 miles away.

We have reserved the Bass Shelter on Saturday for our BBQ/Picnic. There is a $100 deposit for cleaning, so please let's be tidy! I will provide more details as we get closer to the event.

Good morning everyone. We are now 25 days out from the Gathering. I want to thank those who have contacted me to confirm you are still attending this year. Please let me know if you are attending. So far about half who have notified me over the last couple of months have confirmed they are definitely attending. It is important for me to get a good headcount so that we have enough food for the BBQ. Even if you won't know until the last minute, but you are trying to make it work, please let me know so I can that that into account as well.

To this point, donations again seem to be popular. Some of the items being brought by others are drinks, chips, desert, veggie burgers, hot dogs, hot dog buns, and gluten free buns. I will update the menu items about two weeks out.

As of this morning, Osprey Loop still has seven (7) tent sites and eleven (11) RV sites available. I also noticed the link I posted in the initial post to reserve the campsites is not available so I am attaching the corrected link.

Hi Greg, as a birthday present, I was surprised with a trip to Oregon! Although I won't be staying overnight, I'm looking forward to spending time on Friday seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones! Aquene won't be attending (I'm flying), so I'm hoping other A.I.D. owners won't mind me petting their dogs for a few extra minutes.

Looking forward to it!

That is fantastic. I am sure there will be plenty of dogs that would love any attention you want to give them. I know my dogs would be willing to let you give some petting and hugging. Safe travel and we will see you soon.

Good Morning Everyone,

We are now two weeks away from this year's Gathering. For those who are planning to attend and have not sent me your RSVP, please do so. Even if you are planning to attend but you have not been able to 100% lock in your plans, please let me know so I can maintain a "possible attending" list, which will help in the planning for Saturday's BBQ. In order to ensure we have enough supplies, it is important that I get a good headcount.

There have unfortunately been a couple of cancellations, which will happen. But, as it stands today, the number of RSVPs indicates we will have a very good turnout this year. I will post an updated headcount when we are about a week out. The numbers as of this morning, are 51 attending and 7 possible who are still trying to lock in their plans.

I am looking for a volunteer to handle the grill this year. If there is anyone who is willing to handle this important task, please let me know.

This is an updated items list for the BBQ and who has volunteered to bring certain items. Most plan to donate money toward the remaining items necessary for the BBQ. As of this morning, the extended weather forecast predicts sunny and mid 80's for this year's event. Beautiful weather for that time of the year. But it is Oregon and weather can change quickly.

One week countdown.

For those bringing items for the potluck and keeping track of the number of people attending, as of today, I have received confirmations for 55 people. I am expecting a few more people attending who have inquired about this year's event and have not contacted me with an update. So, the best guess is between 50 - 60 bodies this year. Below is the updated pot luck sign-up list. There is still time to volunteer for an item(s) if you want, just let me know before we do the grocery shopping which will be probably Friday.

On Thursday and Friday, I will be at the kennel and checking in periodically at the camping area to ensure everyone is getting settled in.

The weather forecast for Thursday thru Sunday (6 - 9 July) is: Sunny, 0% participation, Highs in mid 80's to low 90's and Lows hoovering around 60. Bring the sun block and mosquito spray. Everyone have a safe trip down.

Safe travels everyone

We will be Oregon bound in a couple hours and will arrive on Thursday sometime in the afternoon... to say that we're excited would be an understatement!

The Gathering kicks off this weekend. We have travelers coming from Minnesota, southern California, Utah, Washington and of course, Oregon. For everyone traveling on the roadways over the next few days, know that you are in our thoughts as you travel. Please be careful and we shall see everyone when you arrive.

Is there anything specific still needed? I see lots of items on the list with no sign-ups. Not sure if this has been filled up. I can do a pasta salad and bring some brats. Or if those are covered, I can bring what ever else is needed. The girls and I will be up there Saturday before lunch.

I want to thank everyone who attended the Gathering this year. It has been a very busy weekend with a lot of people coming from out of the area. I know some of you who couldn't make it are sitting at home waiting for updates and pictures. I was so busy I only took a few pictures and haven't even looked at them yet. There were many cameras out there and I hope that when those who attended get home and settled down will be able to share some pictures and stories.

I promise I will provide more information real soon as well as the few pictures of the Canine Nose Work demonstration. I personally am still trying to catch up on things and should be able to get pictures up soon.

Quick summary...good turnout, lots of dogs, lots of food and lots of fun. A family from Minnesota drive out for the Gathering and went home with their new puppy. Everyone got to see the pregnant mothers (I will release that information soon).

A very busy weekend is finally over and only a few months before planning begins for next year.

The girls and I had a great time as always. I only got a few pics at the gathering myself. I think I took more at the kennels. Thank you Greg for again, getting the wheels rolling and organizing the food list and securing the shelter for us to gather and bbq. Thank you Kim for opening up your home for us to come out and see the dogs. It was great to see them as I often check out the breeders on the forum. I was glad to hear that Jay has a home to go to, and become a family dog. I hope he pops up on the forum periodically. I know you will miss him.

Tenni was able play with one of her brothers, Forest. Arya and Tenni both were sacked out in the truck two minutes after we headed home. Although I didnt get to see which pup went home to Minnesota, I was able to see the three babies. I hope the travel back wasn't too horrible, as that is a long drive. I look forward to seeing these new ones on the forum.

I am glad that I had the opportunity to meet new dogs and their people :)

Saw some familiar faces from last year and enjoyed watching a sniffing exercise and an agility course.

I too, will post some pics later. I am looking forward to seeing pics that others have taken.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed watching my girls run and play. They had so much fun.
