2016 Gathering B-B-Q And Pot Luck

2016 GATHERING (22-24 JULY 2016)

Alright, we are two months away from the annual event at Lake Selmac known as, "The Gathering". There has been a good response leading up to now. Again we tried to lock-in the best date to get as many people and dogs together as possible. I am hopeful that with the help of good friends, we will have yet another successful Gathering.

There are a lot of new puppy owners with puppies from last year's litters and some of those new puppy owners plan to attend this year's event. It is always exciting getting to see new owners with their pups and hear their stories. It is always good to see some older dogs and their owners as well.

We will be at the Mallard Loop Campground again. I know some of you have already reserved tent or RV sites, which is great. If you have not done so yet, we urge you to reserve your campsite early as this is a very popular place.

Be sure to check out the retired breeders while you are here. Kim is still looking to match some retired breeders with current or prior AIDog owners and this would be a good time to see the dogs up close and discuss possibilities with Kim. Also check out the new breeders which Kim kept from last year.

BBQ / POT LUCK

Last year we tried something a little different, which seemed to work pretty well. Some who attended the event last year opted to give money toward the food for the BBQ instead of bringing food. So, for those who would prefer to donate money for the BBQ that option is there. Just to be clear, there will not be a charge for anyone to enjoy the BBQ. The money donated will be used to ensure that we have everything we need for the BBQ. Things happen and people cancel at the last minute. When this happens, food doesn't make it to the BBQ and last minute runs to the grocery store are made. So, for those of you who would rather not deal with trying to go to the store or prepare something for the Pot Luck, this option may be for you.

If you are interested in donating instead of bringing an item or item(s) for the BBQ Pot Luck please let me know when you RSVP. ANY LEFT OVER DONATION MONEY WILL GO TOWARD DOG FOOD AT SONG DOG KENNEL. The donations provided last year were amazing. After covering the expenses for the food and essentials, Allison and I presented the remainder of the donations to Kim. Kim was surprised and extremely grateful for the generosity of the American Indian Dog family.

RSVP

I am requesting a RSVP from everyone who will be attending. You can post it if you like so others will know you are coming, but please send me a personal message and include the number in your party and the name(s) of your dog(s) you will be bringing. Also include whether you plan to donate toward the BBQ or what item(s) you plan to bring. I will update the pot luck list for all to see. We want to ensure we have enough food and other essentials for the event. For those who are unsure how to send a personal message, just click on my picture profile (it's the picture of Anoki) which will open my profile. Simply click on the "Send Me A Message" button. Fill out the fields and send it off just like an email.

The BBQ Pot Luck will begin early afternoon on Saturday, July 23th. There is a small grocery store about 3 miles away, a slightly larger grocery store about 10 miles away, and the closest Safeway or larger grocery store is in Grants Pass, about 23 miles away.

We have reserved the Blue Gill Shelter on Saturday for our BBQ/Picnic. There is a $100 deposit for cleaning, so please let's be tidy! I will provide more details as we get closer to the event.

I plan on going down and joining the BBQ and finding more about the American Indian Dog. That would be great time to introduce my Alaskan Husky Shale to this breed to see how she socializes with other AI dogs. Let me know what you need me to bring to the potluck. In meantime I will try to get a reservations for a tent site for me and my dog.

I just joined the Cascade Dog Sled Club last month, so I will not have a scooter. However I plan on getting her a harness before the BBQ and start working on word commands. I will also bring my IK kayak for lake touring and water games with the IK if it get's really hot.

Hello Greg,

Put us down for bringing the hotdogs again this year. Our oldest son says he is bringing his scooter and the harnesses. He has never been in a raise against other dogs, so this could be interesting.

Looks like we are about six weeks out now which will pass in no time. See you all soon.

Meadow’s Family

P.S. We will be bringing a larger scooter with tires.

I've got a scooter. We're out of practice. But hey, don't want to be shown up by you younguns. We'll be on the road and practicing soon.

Lost my lead dog recently, but my beta has heart if not a clear understanding of the directions.

OK folks, we are four weeks from the 2016 Gathering at Lake Selmac and this event is quickly creeping upon us. I am posting the current potluck list. If it looks a little bare, it is because most have opted to donate instead of bringing food. There is always room for home made items as well. If anyone wants to bring an item(s) please let me know so we do not double up on items when we do our shopping.

I am currently working on a menu and a list of items which will be needed for the BBQ. With the help of a couple of volunteers, we will do the shopping so that others don't have to mess with cooking, baking or going to the store. For those planning to donate to the BBQ fund, do not worry about mailing your money. Just get a hold of Allison or me when you arrive.

We currently have people attending from Oregon, Washington, California and Nevada. There are several others who have indicated their intentions to attend but have not notified me of whether they will be able to make it for sure. If you plan to attend, please let us know so we can plan accordingly. There is always room.

Added bonus...

Again this year, there will be puppies ready to go to their new homes. Check out the little ones while you are here. The hope is that new owners will be able to come out and enjoy the Gathering while picking up their new pup. It was fun last year watching new owners getting their puppy to go home with after the festivities.

Forrest, I am sorry to hear you will not be able to make it this year. I sure hope it is nothing too serious on your end. I know you were looking forward to attending this year.

If there are any takers for this trailer site please contact Forest or me. Only a little over three weeks left until this year's event.

Good Morning All,

We are now two weeks away from the 2016 Gathering. This is a call for all who plan to attend and have not sent a RSVP yet to please do so. The time is upon us and final preparations are now underway. In order to ensure we have enough supplies, it is important that I get a complete headcount. There have been a few cancellations from a few who drove out to pick up a puppy over the last couple of weeks. I hate to ask this, but please post again, or send me a PM again if you like, to confirm your attendance or cancellation for this event. I just need to confirm the RSVP list. Thanks in advance for you cooperation.

I hope to post an update next week with a total head count for those who plan to bring an item(s) for the BBQ. The weather looks great for this year's event and there should be puppies ready that week to go to their new homes as well. Come see the little ones.

One week countdown.

For those bringing items for the potluck and keeping track of the number of people attending, as of today, I have received confirmations for 31 people. I am expecting a few more people attending who have inquired about this year's event and have not contacted me with an update. So, the best guess is between 30 - 40 bodies this year. Below is the updated pot luck sign-up list. There is still time to volunteer for an item(s) if you want, just let me know before we do the grocery shopping which will be probably Friday.

On Thursday and Friday, I will be at the kennel and checking in periodically at the camping area to ensure everyone is getting settled in. The weather forecast for Thursday thru Sunday (21-24 July) is: Sunny, 0% participation, Highs in mid 80's and Lows in mid-50's. Bring the sun block and mosquito spray. Everyone have a safe trip down.
