Planning For The 2016 Gathering At Lake Selmac

Well here we are in February and we need to begin planning for this year's Gathering at Lake Selmac. I have already had some inquiries as to when this year's event will be. I hope it is early enough for those wanting to attend to begin making travel plans. We do need to get an idea of what would be a good weekend to hold the event.

As we did last year, we are looking at a three month block (June, July or August) to set the annual event. Typically people will arrive on Friday to set up camp, socialize and let the dogs get to know each other. Saturday will be the main event for the weekend which will include a BBQ that afternoon and later a migration down to Song Dog Kennel to see the dogs up close, tell more stories and whatever else may happen. We need to reserve the picnic area to ensure we have appropriate facilities for the BBQ. We do want to select a weekend that will allow as many people as possible to come experience this wonderful event.

I would like to lock in a date to reserve the picnic area by March 1st.

Please check your calendars and reply with a primary weekend and, if possible, an alternate weekend that would work. Those who would prefer to send me a private message, feel free to do so. We will look at all the dates, lock in the weekend and hopefully post the date for the 2015 Gathering on or about the 1st of March.

OK everyone, I have had a couple of PMs thus far with requests for dates to hold this year's Gathering. I do plan on locking in a date by next Tuesday (March 1st). As of today, we still have every Saturday open during the month of July as well as the first two weekends of August. The same pavilion we used last year is still available, which I think worked out well for us. We were also fortunate enough to hold last year's event the same day as the Blue Grass Festival. That same event will be held in the same area this year on the 16th of July if we want to try to combine it again.

 

Please let me know what works best.

I will wrap my schedule around this. My guts say just before or after that festival, but I trust your judgment. Let me know the date you have secured. I am so there.

I will have it secured tomorrow when the Parks Department opens. I purposely allowed an extra week in case last minute contacts came in. This is the last day and I will lock it in tomorrow. As of right now, it is looking like the weekend of July 23rd is the popular vote.

As of this morning, it is official. 22-24 July 2016 for this year's Gathering.
