miz molly 1,800
Greetings R.E.D. Community,We are at a crossroads within our community. This occurs at natural times, like the ebbing and flowing of a river. As you may recall from some decisions we made earlier this year, we're in a time of shifting our focus, including some down-sizing. The span of time between our youngers and our elders seems to be increasing ~ we have many elders doing the 'grunt work' within R.E.D. while we're noticing our youngers are not yet picking up those logistic work pieces. This is a very common trend in traditional societies where our 'middle youth' (aka teens!) lean towards more involvement in the mainstream with school, work, sports, peers, etc.. Thus, we temporarily lose some of the late teens/young adults for some years as they finish school and step out into the world. We say 'temporarily' because many end up gravitating back to their cultural activities when they get older, but it's understandable that young people need to step into their independence as they literally 'live in two worlds.'That being said, R.E.D. is taking pause once again to listen to our community. As we prepare for our 9th Annual Elder/Youth Conference next week (July 2-5), we want to ask you all for help. We need more hands helping in this Conference--from the set-up to kitchen work to teaching the kids to camp break-down--we simply need more help! There are a precious handful of us (and by that we do mean just a few of us!) doing a large amount of physical work. We plan to do the Conference again this year, but we are going to most likely make this the last Elder/Youth Camp if we can't get more initial commitment from our community to step in and help. It is a very large under-taking to host a four-day camp for this purpose, and we need to look at this realistically--for our own sanity and physical health.Thank you for 'hearing' this and for being part of our community. We look forward to whatever shifts in focus are ahead, and we value the relationships we've made along the way.Red Earth Descendants
