Kyha - Update May 2019 - Questions To Ai Parents...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Khya has completed our little family. She is indeed our moon & stars and it is quite funny how we all have settled in-quirks and all. Khya is so very smart. She will go downstairs & bring the leash to you. She will start off in the morning with 'talking' (what is taking you so long human) and it will escalate quickly into howls.

Proud to say she is The.Fastest.Dog.in.Town. No Husky, Viszla, Blue Heeler, Weimaraner, Whippet, Lab, Russian whatever, German Sheppard, Belgian Sheppard, Coonhound - nothing. Love watching people's faces. Then they approach and out it comes...What kind of dog is that?

She can clear the fence with ease.

So, quirks...she has a couple:

1. Wrinkles on sheets=she nibbles on them, like it's corn on the cob. Does the same thing on anything my son wears that has a ribbing. Or a blanket with a ribbing. Or a facecloth she pulls out of the bathtub and will nibble and pull the threads. Has anyone had this experience?

2. If my son comes up to hug me (does not happen all that often - he is a teenager!) - she will come and either bark at him or stand up and try to stretch up on his back and bark.

3. She has a thing for stealing toilet paper. Why, I have no idea but will try to eat it.

4. She loves lettuce stalks.

5. Not a huge fan of baths but will tolerate - with one back leg up on the bathtub.

6. She knows when either one of us are sick and will lie with us.

I was out walking here late one night, and before I knew it she alerted me. Around the corner was a "undesirable" loitering in the shadows. She growled like Cujo, hackles went up and scared the pants near off of him. Which wasn't hard, pants were half off anyways!

OMG that face! Love it.

All AIDs are characters. We love our eccentric little goofs.

Can't say ours have the same quirks as Khya (great name. What does it mean?)

Toilet paper can be a fascination. One of our dogs (Fenris GSD) did have a fixation for a few months as a pup with it and the toilet. Thankfully he's outgrown.

Waki and Cake don't care for strings, tags, ears and tails on toys. They do like a close shave.

Waki loves water, Cake HATES it. We took everyone dock diving and Cake looked like a very unhappy cat. She prefers to catwalk her life preserver and look fabulous vs swim.

Waki will stand and put his legs on our tummy and "hug". Sometimes. Usually he seems to be telling us something at the same time like why did Fenris get to be outside helping Dad and he had to be inside? Or Fen is getting hugs and he wants to be included but he's little so doesn't want to get squished. Otherwise his hug of choice is weaponized bottom.

Enjoy the quirks!

Hi Sherab,

LOL. I am grateful Khya LOVES the water. She flew right into the lake when we were up north last summer.

Hard to get her out of the water.

Her name, btw, is a twist on "Kai" – Willow Tree (Navajo).

You are so lucky to have two!

Do yours like to be up high when in the house? That is another thing. If she can be perched on the back ledge of the sofa, or on top of back of the armchair - that is where she loves to be. Or, of course right at your feet when you are on the computer and you forget and trip over the bundle of fur and get 'the look'...hahahah

Traits 1-6, Kaposia has them all except the lettuce stalk is raw carrot. She doesn't nibble the sheets and blankets anymore, although she probably would like to. We go through about one knotted rope a week, that's where she gets her nibbling/thread pulling fix. We have to keep the bathroom doors closed all the time due to tissue/toilet paper eating. Since hubby has gone back to work driving a school bus, we get the jumping up and barking every time he hugs me goodbye. She just wants her "lovies" too and is fine after he pets her and kisses her on the head. Had to leave her home when we made a day trip to Wisconsin and had our daughter and boyfriend look in on her, let her out for a bit, play some ball, etc. Boyfriend's comment, "Boy, she is FAST!!!" Haven't had a problem with her trying to clear the fence since she was a pup and caught her paw on a little barb on top of the fence. GOOD JOB KHYA!!! Yes, they are very attuned to undesirables. As gentle and loving as these dogs are, I love that they look freakin' wild, crazy and ferocious with their hackles up. Up high, yes, the front bay window.

Waki is not an up high dog. He prefers to be under things. He likes to be under the bed, in a tent, in a tube.. When he was little he went under the dresser a lot. BUT kennels most certainly do not count as comfort palaces. And yes he is GREATLY offended if you trip over him.

Cake is a comfort lover. She had taken over almost all of Fenris's beds with great relish, except the one by the front door which might require guarding against the UPS, mail and fed x so she has NO interest in any of that. She loves the futon and my feet when we are in bed.

AIDs make wonderful parents of other dogs and the results can be both wonderful and hilarious. Fenris (GSD) who was raised by AIDs is fluent in AID body language speak and points as well as any AID and even hunts (although he doesn't eat what he catches and even got a bloody nose from a squirrel he caught) likes to be on chairs and the back of the futon (which doesn't work any more since he's over 85 lbs and the back just sags under his weight). He and Waki compete to froth at deliveries by the front door. Fenris respects his papa but will test the waters lately by putting his log known as a leg on Waki's head to try to get Waki to let him be in front with the frothing. I believe Fenris was genuinely concerned when he got MUCH MUCH bigger than his AID "parents" and is a little like the character in ELF except smarter.

My dog Kai is a sheet and blanket nibbler and both my boys destroy stuffies, they chew the stitching and destuff them, neatly putting the fluff in a pile beside them! Kai has nibbled holes into "indestructible dog toys". Both my Indians are the fastest runners at the park (unless the borzoi"s happen to be there that day) and yes, the "what kind of dogs are those?" is a regular question. My Jesse is still pretty young but as soon as Kai turned 3 he became extremely watchful of us, he patrols our yard and sets himself at advantageous spots to guard us when we're all outside, and although so very sweet, he wouldn't hesitate to protect us from danger. He is fond of being up high, loves the back of the couch to look out the window. I follow a lot of AI dogs on Instagram and am always seeing how much they all move, look and behave like each other, especially sleeping positions. My boys sleep on their backs A LOT, one front leg straight up!! Also, they sleep with their heads on each other often, so precious.

Sschenk, you can totally change the names in your post to Wyot and Keechee (we changed the spelling of his name so people would say it right, lol)...our boys are EXACTLY this way! Wyot is the patroller/protector, while Keechee is the silly, I'll run with sticks or a frisbee in my mouth playing myself if no one throws it to me kind of boy!! They both LOVE taking stuffing out of toys and the occasional pillow (though we haven't had a incident but once in the trailer), and the sleeping on your back with a silly smile, one leg up extended high, head to head on their "bed". The sounds they speak, yeah, unlike anything I've heard from any dogs....they TALK, complain, tell you etc. It's wonderful!!!!

KittynDoc, LOL! Keechee sounds exactly like my Jesse… his ambition in life is to have fun. He too will play by himself if he can't get one of us to engage him and he could play ball for hours. Both boys are extremely sweet but there is an innocence about Jesse that melts my heart, even the cats rule over him! I always call them the twindians because they sleep and lay around in like positions, ALL the time!

Lili and Kona are both total oddballs too. Lili is Waki's sister and they are two peas separated by a several hundred mile long 'pod' (being the states of Illinois & Michigan)! The weapon of a$$ destruction is a universal go to choice for Lili for managing rough housing and for controlling the wrestle-mania, which ensues regularly. If Kona gets too rambunctious it's a$$ for days! It is breathtakingly hilarious to see Lili and Waki attempting to deploy against each other...it's like a Unicorn....very rare.

Kona is a 'Top' dog which translates into gravity assisted training from time to time. Her favorite place on the planet seems to be on top of the couch (which some of you veteran board lurkers will remember was designated by her as a humongous plush toy at one point). Luckily, she hasn't designated the leather couch as a plush toy....yet.

They both got some new 'shoes' recently, or as Sherab calls them, 'pants'. Pretty nice actually. Made by a company called Pug Life! They were insulted at first but they go on and come off much easier than the old shoes so they warmed up to them pretty quick.

Generally though they are thick as thieves as my mother in law used to say....You gotta get another one!

This is how and where you'll find Kona during the day when we're home.
