2018 GATHERING (6 -8 JULY 2018)

Alright, we are just over five weeks away from the annual event at Lake Selmac know as, "The Gathering". There has been a great response so far leading up to this year's event. Many have responded early and I would like to thank everyone for your input. This year, as I mentioned in the initial post, is a special year for us here at Song Dog Kennels (more on that later). We hope to get as many people as possible, as well as their dogs, to this year's event. I am hopeful that we will have another fun and successful Gathering.

We will have some long time and multiple AIDog owners, first time AIDog owners, people on the waiting list and even some interested people attending this year's event. And, of course, it is always fun to watch these AIDogs return home to hang out with their cousins.

We will be at the Osprey Loop Campground again this year. I know some of you have already reserved tent or RV sites, which is fantastic. If you have not done so yet, we urge you to reserve your campsite early as Lake Selmac is a very popular place during this time of the year. If the camp sites are all taken, there are motels in Grants Pass, which is the closest location to Lake Selmac with motels. It is about a 20-25 mile drive to the lake, but it is a nice and easy drive. For those who have stayed in Kerby in the past, Kerbyville Inn was closed last year, and as of this evening, it is still closed until further notice. I am not sure what the reason is.

SDK has a few retired breeders and Kim is always looking to match retired breeders with current or prior AIDog owners who may be interested. This would be a good time to see the dogs up close and discuss possibilities with Kim. Currently, we have made only one breeding for the summer season and, at this time, it is expected to be the only summer litter this year. If this breeding was successful, we will know very soon and will make the announcement.

Once again, we will offer those who attended the event an option to donate money toward the food for the BBQ instead of bringing food. This seemed to work well for many over the last couple of years. So, for those who would prefer to donate money for the BBQ that option is still there. Just to be clear, there will not be a charge for anyone to enjoy the BBQ. The money donated will be used to cover the cost of the what is needed for the BBQ. Things happen and people cancel at the last minute. When this happens, food doesn't make it to the BBQ and last minute runs to the grocery store are made. So, for those who would rather not deal with trying to go to the store or prepare something for the Pot Luck, this option may be for you.

If you are interested in donating instead of bringing an item or item(s) for the BBQ Pot Luck please let me know when you RSVP. ANY LEFT OVER DONATION MONEY WILL GO TOWARD DOG FOOD AT SONG DOG KENNEL. The donations provided during the last couple of events has been amazing. After covering the expenses for the food and essentials, the remainder of the donations will be presented to Kim. Kim is always extremely grateful for the generosity of the American Indian Dog family.

The American Indian Dog t-shirts are back again. If you haven't done so already, contact Tervlab and place your order to ensure you get your shirt before the Gathering, there is still time. Tervlab said she plans to have some extra shirts at the Gathering as well.

EVENTS

Saturday July 7th, is the main day for the weekend event. Along with the BBQ, we are looking to add another event or two. I mentioned in the Planning For The 2018 Gathering At Lake Selmac topic that, ”This will be a very special year for Kim here at Song Dog Kennels". Well here it is. Kim is also turning another year older at the time of this Gathering, so we are planning to also include a surprise birthday party for him. Kim does not know about this, which is why it is a surprise, and I ask that everyone PLEASE keep it quiet.

RSVP

I am requesting a final confirmation from everyone who will be attending. You can post it if you like so others will know you are coming, or send me a personal message. Please include the number in your party and the name(s) of your dog(s) you will be bringing. Also please indicate whether you plan to donate toward the BBQ or what item(s) you plan to bring. I will update the pot luck list for all to see. We want to ensure we have enough food and other essentials for the event. For those who are unsure how to send a personal message, just click on my picture profile (it's the picture of Anoki) which will open my profile. Simply click on the "Send Me A Message" button. Fill out the fields and send it off just like an email.

The BBQ Pot Luck will begin early afternoon on Saturday, July 8th. There is a small grocery store about 3 miles away, a slightly larger grocery store about 10 miles away, and the closest Safeway or larger grocery store is in Grants Pass, about 23 miles away.

We have reserved the Bass Shelter on Saturday for our BBQ/Picnic. There is a $100 deposit for cleaning, so please let's be tidy! I will provide more details as we get closer to the event.

I just checked the Lake Selmac Reservation site and there are still a couple tent sites and a couple of back-in sites available on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July in the Osprey Loop area. There are 6 tent spots available and a several back-in sites available in Osprey loop for the 6th thru the 8th of July. There are other sites available throughout the lake area during those days if Osprey fills up. Below is the new link to check availability and reserve a site for that weekend.

OH MY GOODNESS.... I cannot believe there is less than two weeks left until the annual event. As of today, 43 people have confirmed they will be attending this year's event and I am still waiting for another 7-10 who will not know for sure until next week.

As for the weather, the extended forecast for our area the weekend of the Gathering is predicting sunshine with lows in the mid 50s and the highs in the low to mid 80s. This will be beautiful weather for this time of the year. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the fires stay away. We had a lot of fires and smoke last year; so far, so good. Please bring your sunblock, insect repellent and lets all plan on having a great time.

There will be several showing up as early as a week in advance, so I would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to be safe as you travel to our neck of the woods.
