Another Sad Tale...

Pet Chimp Shot

This story broke my heart when I heard it this morning on the news. When I went researching it, I wanted to shoot the humans! This poor chimp had been given tea laced with Xanax, taught to drink wine, and taught to act human...so when he reacts in a natural way - they shoot him. Too bad we cannot do this to humans who have behave the same. Once again I feel more compassion for the animal than the human who tried to domesticate him. I hope he is in the Summerland, finally free.

I haven't been on in so long I feel like I have been MIA!!! I too heard this on the news this morning. I actually live in Connecticut, and have worked with animals the past 6 years. I was very saddend to hear the news and know that they killed the chimp. Then I hear that you researched it more, and the fact that the Chimp was taught to act human angers me even more. Then they tell you, you shouldn't have wild animals as pets, and it should be for that reason. Peopl try to change and alter the way animals live, and as you see it can be dangerous. That was NO reason for them to have to kill the chimp though! On that note...Its good to be back!

First thing - Hi Kaily! Nice to meet you and Sikari is beautiful!

Second - the officer who shot the chimp was being attacked by him through the passenger side door of his car; he basically unloaded into the poor animal in the car and then the chimp ran away - back to his caged area in the woods, where they found he had expired due to the wounds.

Every time I read something like this, it gets me more angry...we used to have a wildlife reserve close to where I lived and the woman spent her life rescuing animals that others had tried to domesticate and then found that they couldn't. She had cougars, fox, apes, bears, and even a lion cub that someone had smuggled into the country and then couldn't tame - so they let her loose in the woods. DUH!! What she did though was recreated their natural habitat and then left them to their natural ways. I am not sure if she is still doing this - but I used to take my son there when he was little and he always took his Tootsie Roll bank and donated his money to her. Now if we could just get the "rules" changed so things like this didn't happen!

I swear to the powers that be if they play that 911 call one more time on the news I am going to scream. Now the woman is claiming that he had Lyme's disease...so my question is...why the H...E...double hockey sticks had she not gotten him treated? Grrrrrrrr....I am up in arms over this one!

I had to look up Xanax. It is an anti-depressant, right? You know that some anti-depressants work the opposite way on some individuals. That is what "going postal" is all about.

From the manufacturer:

"the following adverse events have been reported in association with the use of XANAX: seizures, hallucinations, depersonalization"

Xanax is an immediate anti-anxiety...

It's meant to calm you after taking where as most anti-depressants are taken regularly and generally alter serotonin levels. Xanax is similar to Diazepam(vallum)

My guess, the side-effects scared the chimp, and that's why the rampage occured :) depersonalization, and hallucinations can be scary... ask Kim :D
