Kodie And Teq In Kentucky

Recommended Posts

Kodie and Teq are doing great. Kodie and I are getting back into hiking. It's been a slow summer due to my minor but inconvenient knee injury. We've slacked off obedience school (after completing level 4) mostly due to my busy schedule and then my lack of enthusiasm. Now that she is such a wonderful dog, I'd rather walk her around town, take her out hiking, or on a trail ride with the horses. After I was able to calmly call her off a screaming female wild turkey, I know I can completely trust her out in the woods. In town we walk "off leash" everywhere. I just put the leash over my shoulder and she walks in heel position. She is truly a joy to be around.

Teq is on her way to being a great dog. She is learning very quickly and although she isn't ready for the "big girl" walks of 2 miles around town that Kodie and I take, she is becoming very consistent on our shorter walks. She is exceeding my expectations during our training sessions. She is already an old pro at heeling circles, automatically sitting at halts, and downs. We're hitting sit stays pretty hard now and she's coming along very well. Similar to Kodie she doesn't see any reason to sit for any length of time if you can just lay down, but if that's her worst behavior at learning sit stays, I'll take it!!

Teq has also made 2 trips to the dog park and although she doesn't stay super close to me yet, she easily comes when I call. Very happy about that. I'm confident it won't be long before I'm writing that she's out in the woods with her pack on hiking right behind Kodie!

It's funny Tamara and I were just talking that sometimes we forget she is just a few months old because she acts more mature than her age. Of course, every now and then she becomes a little firecracker of a puppy, which reminds us.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with our AI dogs. They are a joy to train and always eager to learn something new.
