Kola.....our Boy Turns "1"

Recommended Posts

We have had a crazy summer here on Lake Winnipesaukee (NH)......

We were very worried that Kola wouldn't like the water, but as you can see he not only LOVES the water, but the boat as well!

I have a short video i will attach after the photos.

He loves watermelon, and waits patiently for it.....

also will swim right next to us while we do laps! ;)

BUT....his all time favorite summer past time was his evening swim catching bugs.....he sometimes would get side tracked by the occasional duck.....heehee.....but swimming around trying to catch bugs in his mouth seemed to keep him very happy!

More hiking now that the weather is cooler and all the toys are out of the water. He wears his pack well.....just a couple water bottles so we don't bother his hips too much. It is too hard to keep him down as far as the displaysia goes....but he is headed for surgery soon.

He cries when his brother or sister are not around for long periods of time, but he is maturing perfectly. He is loved and admired by everyone that meets him. His one happy trait is his body wag.....he can't just wag his tail....it's his whole body!

I would love to here how his siblings are doing.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I am glad that his hips aren't holding him back. Bet swimming is good for that. Let us know when the surgery is so we can all root for you. Also how it goes. We don't get bored of progress, even if it goes on for a while.

I felt bad I hadn't updated all summer!!!

My older son is moving to California and will be taking his Husky ......we are worried that Kola and my sons dog will have separation anxiety??

We may need to consider another AID.......................... ;)

Two AIDs is a constant source of joy and amusement. We just picked ours up from the kennel after a week end away. The staff say our dogs are integrated - like one living entity.

YIPPEE! Lake Winnipesaukee! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KOLA!

Thanks for the pics, I don't think the lakeside changes much.

Early teenage years used to go up to a smaller lake south and east of the main one.

Trip down memory lane and it is fun seeing your dog enjoying the lake so much!

Wag,

Kito whines and get upset too if older brother (also AI) Bandit cannot be close by, (not coincidentally, Bandit does the same) whether simply in the backyard, on car rides, at the vet, etc., and our wonderful vet has of course said "just bring both, why not?" So we have a checkup this weekend, so Bandit is coming along for moral support. :)

Happy Birthday to your beautiful boy! He's such a gorgeous color!

We would love to see a picture of Kito .....

Kola is by far, our sweetest dog!

I rescued an abandoned horse in March, and I am eager for Kola to meet her. She has needed time to just be a horse and begin to trust again, but soon they will meet and I can't wait to see how their relationship evolves! I will update with pictures.

Her name is Ember.....she is 5

OH I JUST CAN'T RESIST!

" Dog meet horse. Horse this is dog. Now play nice together." :P

I wonder if the AI pups see the horses on Kim's farm? (I peeked on the website and saw some of his horses for sale. Oh there was a beautiful paint. If I only had a little farm ....

On the Dairy farm where I grew up and the boarding horse farm where I later worked. The horses and dogs didn't bother each other. We didn't do anything special. On the boarding farm, sometimes the dogs would play with the horses in the turn out paddocks, trying to get the horses to chase them. Some horses did play some ignored.

With the rescue horse because of trust issues, depending on the dog - if dog is calm, it may help the horse to trust people. If the horse is skittish around other animals then horse trusting human first and special intro to follow .... ????

Wag I applaud your dedication, patience and compassion to help this animal!

Hey I think there is a house in that picture....Husky heaven?

Wow he is super good looking. How's his hip? Did you get the surgery? Looks like he took a dunk. Does he have a good head on him around thin or rotten ice or is he just good at getting back out?

Kola is absolutely handsome. I bet you get allot of compliments about him, well we all do about our dogs as a matter of fact.

Kola has a pretty good sense about some things.....but the puppy in him still creeps out every now and again!

Holding off on hip surgery for now, they are encouraging us to wait until he shows signs of discomfort. So we feed him Dogswell, Happy Hips food and give him plenty of joint health dog treats....he is such a GOOD boy!!!!

Have you tried laser therapy? It might help. If it does they sell a hand held version that works well. We take Shiva to the vet for pro strength zapping about every 2 weeks. I use the hand held version on him every day. I swear it has stopped his spinal degeneration. It use to work very well on Tara's arthritis.

First photo here is just his absolutely adorable face!

The next three are him in his snow fort. We got a tremendous amount of snow this winter, and every time we plowed, Kola would dig a fort in the big snow banking! It was a little frustrating at times because we had to keep shoveling up the mess he would make....but still SO cute!!!!

He looks so regal at times!

We haven't done laser treatment yet, although you are the second person to mention it. We are heading to see a specialist in Maine this summer.
