  1. No, this is a new release. I had to put a hold on hold at the library, and it took a good few weeks to come in.

I've read about the foxes a number of times. It's a huge experiment.

When you get a chance could you post the title? Always enjoy a good book!! Thanks!

  2. Great articles! I'm reading a great dog book (sorry, the name is very boring and I can't remember it) that is all about dog evolution both psychological and physical. The profound way they differ from wolves, the animal that most informs our popular views on how our dogs think, is surprising. I'm not even halfway through it so don't want to recommend it yet, but I'm enjoying it a lot.

Not the one by Coppinger? Can't remember the title exactly - read that one years ago. Was fascinated by it. Does it have the foxes in it that were bred for docile behavior that ended up spotted and with floppy ears?

  3. I'll never do that again. I guess it's good that I enjoyed my only diy fireworks, since it was probably my last. The teenager came down to the party once things started warming up all over the extended neighborhood, and he didn't crate Danza. I don't think it would have helped anyway. She should not have been alone - I failed her. She somehow managed to open the double doors out to the front patio, and when my husband walked up to the house, the door was open and she was apparently nearby, running and "screaming", in his words. If she'd been crated, she would have broken out of that, too. (She's figured out how to get out of three different crates.) Luckily she did not head for the hills, and came to him when he tried to round her up. By the time I got to the house about 15 minutes later she was crated and calm. I apologized to her profusely.

I imagine that was scary for you!And for Danza too. Sorry to hear how frightened she was - know you were frightened for her. Amazing tho how adept these guys are about finding a way to 'escape'! They are so darned smart! And don't worry about 'failing' her - it's always a learning experience with these dogs, now you both know that there's more to learn LOL So glad tho that she came freely to your hubbie - that means you guys are definitely pack leaders in her mind - safety and love are where you are!

  4. If your dog is nervous about the fireworks/noise try Bach's Rescue Remedy. It helps almost any situation where you're dealing with fear or anxiety. Also there is a really cool 'jacket' for nervous dogs called the Thunder shirt ( http://www.thundershirt.com/) that I'm told works well. Based kind of on the theory that Dr. Temple Grandin used for herself and other autistic people (if you haven't seen the movie about her life you really should - fascinating!) So many animals suffer on the 4th (and New Years etc) end up traumatized or even escaping confinement and running away/getting lost.....not that I think anyone here would allow that to happen but one never knows! (Rescue Remedy works on people, cats, horses, almost any mammal too btw - used to give it to my foster kids when anxiety or anger got the best of them!)

  5. I want that chair.

They are super comfortable - my daughter has one - it swivels around but it's so darned comfy you fall asleep in it - great for 2 whether it's dog and master or 2 people. Even the cats fight to sleep in it!

  6. Thanks so much for your kind compliments! My husband and I could not love Eli more. They have a way of weaving themselves into your heart, don't they? He completed basic puppy training at 6 months and got his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification at 9 months. He's now about 10 months old and weighs 45.8 lbs and is one giant ball of energy! We are still unsure of how tall he'll get. My in-laws have an AIDog who is very tall and lean (love the build!) but Eli is still pretty short. I saw photos of Eli's father (Jay) who appeared shorter than other males in the photos on the website. Anyone have some insight as to what age these pups stop growing? Or any recommendations for puppy-age food?

Really there isn't any set 'rule of thumb' but usually they're done growing around 2 years of age. Most height is gained by 1 year but during the second year, they get their full growth and weight. Any good quality dog food will work but obviously keep away from the 'Old Roy' category and especially away from anything with mostly grains as their food source. I've used both the Chicken Soup brand and Solid Gold with good results but hear that Blue Buffalo is excellent too. She's a beautiful dog - I like that 'robbers' mask' description too!

  7. I know it isn't the same - but he'll be a nice 'toy' for the next indian dog you get <g> Hang in there!

Ugh. I haven't been back to the forum in a while. It's been hard to see all the beautiful dogs. So what did I do? Got a silly little Papillon. He's oversized for the breed and actually quite smart, but geez, it just isn't the same. Not by a long shot.
  8. That was beautiful Yvette, so many of the responses to Cayenne's passing. It's been very comforting to read everyone's sympathy - thank you!

  9. Hi Judy! You're still around - yay!! And your aswer is yes but a qualified yes - same mom and dad but a later litter - I believe our Cayenne was born in November? I don't have my paperwork right where I can put my fingers on it (in storage) but I know my daughter will correct me if I'm wrong <g> So full sister to Shadow Dancer! It's been very difficult to even talk about Cayenne's loss - well, you know about that so I'll shut up. Miss that dog very much!

We have a female ToIsta Shadow Dancer born May 2, 1998 from Rogue and Sky Dancer. Was this a sister to your female?

We're sorry for your loss. We see how Shadow is slowing down but try to keep her very busy with the other three - she's our matriarch!

  10. Cayenne's mom was Sky - a beautiful white aidog with blue eyes.

Thank you everyone. I'll email Kim. She was the last litter in 98 from Rogue and his white female whose name is escaping me at the moment. She did love to sing. Easy to get her going, too.
  11. Cayenne - or Kia as I called her - was truly one of a kind and a wonderful spirit. She was a true 'medicine' dog, healing those around her who were sad or hurting. She was a joy to be around, would do silly things to get you to smile. As any of you know who has their own aidog, they can also be purely frustrating too and bless my daughter for taking on much of her training as a pup. Cayenne was a beautiful dog too - she looked a great deal like her mom Dusty or her aunt Cy. Love that red/gold coloring! She is and was unique and special. There will never be another one like her. My thanks to my daughter 'Six' who posted to you all about Cayenne/Kia. And thank you that responded with such beautiful and heartfelt responses.

  12. I'd consider the dog pix but none of the owners!! Who wants to see an old Polish woman and her husband????? Dogs are much prettier and handsome! Bleu has turned into quite the 'looker' -- We didn't have 5 at one time -- I'd be in a padded cell -- three at a time is quite the handful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Judy K in Michigan

Any chance of seeing a pic of Bleu - or all of the dogs actually? I'd love to see some new ones of him - is he a lot like Zi or more like Dancer (his mom?) Always curious as to which side rules - Happy or the moms side :(

  13. I'm glad you know what AZ meant! I was trying to think of an A-Z book or something! I will learn to speak American one day, I'm learning fast!

You mean there's a difference between english english and american english? Bwahahaha I'm so shocked! I know, I know, I sometimes forget that someone might not recognize the AZ - my bad!! I'll try and learn to be a bit more clear too <g> hey - if you wanna learn american - just ask - I'm sure there are many who can help you out?

How is Shunka doing? do you ever see Colin or any of the other ones that have pups from that litter? I just love Colin's dog - my Kiya looks kind of like her - I always mispell the name - but I think its' Sgaith? he told me what it meant - but I've forgotten now (old age haha!) how did you pick Shunka for a name? Sounds Sioux? I'm Cherokee - so don't quote me on Sioux stuff tho Bwahahaha

  14. Yep, we watched it too. She made it in by a squeak but don't think she'll be lucky much longer. The girls are dynamite singers but my money is on David Ancheleta, the 17 year old young man -- his voice is breaktaking. I was in tears last week when he sang John Lennon's IMAGINE!

Simon, while some think is rude and crude, is actually on the money. After all, he didn't become a billionaire from not knowing about singers and the music business. So, it's David all the way for us!!!

I agree Judy - if she doesn't pick up the pace a bit I doubt if she'll make it to the final group. :( She's good tho - and the nice thing is almost any of them that are on the main show seem to end up with a contract or some sort of help. This time tho - I hope she's more careful and doesn't get tied up in a 7 yr contract (I think it was 7 yrs?) Arlene said that they let her cut like 3 records but didn't even bother to promote them and kept her from doing anything else because she was under their contract. Which I think was not very nice <g> So hopefully this time she'll come away with something good if she doesn't make it all the way. Very different side of her tho when she sang 'country' - I think that's probably her niche

I really like David Ancheleta too - he's a doll and can he sing!! I know what you mean about that song - imagine. Gave me shivers! I rather like Brooke White myself for the girls side and don't laugh but I really enjoy Amanda Overmeyer. :P I'm sure she'll not make it to the end - but it's nice to see some reall 'rock and roll' come out of someone there! And she can sure rock! I love Brooke White's voice tho.

Oh well, I guess it's a wait and see thing but I've watched each of the seasons and enjoyed them - some good talent this year too.

  15. I lost my post that time! what did I press! contol for shift!

    Anyway what I said was!

Thanks for that information, it says it's 4.00 am here, I may have been up, but not computing!

It is actually just about 12.05pm now, but as the song goes "Its 5.00 o'clock somewhere!"

That's the pity of the time difference, there is such a short time scale that we are on line at a decent time for us all.

I know - it's rough trying to catch someone when they're in a different time zone. On the other dog email list - we have Gea and Josanne and others who are across the 'big pond' and the posts always miss each other as far as time - but it doesn't seem to make too much difference. Some - like me <g> - are night owls and then gea and I will actually 'talk' via email in real time Bwahahaha but this is still a good way to catch up on news and such - forums and email lists - they're there when you want to read them and all!

So you were computing in the wrong time zone too? Bwahahaha I did like the idea tho I was on casablanca time (love that old film!) Then the info was a good thing to ask about - good explanation on how to fix it too!

  16. Liz, I know that I'm coming into this discussion on the late side but just wanted to say how difficult this must be for you all to be going thru. I remember when I was doing Sarah's site there is a picture of Shunka on the first gallery page - and of course he has graced the iidoba site in the famous puppy line up for years <g> Darling photos all - I don't know if I have seen an adult photo but I do remember loving that face in the first photo......Now that he is feeling better and stitches are out, I hope that the nightmare is on it's way out. Smoke and prayers going up for Shunka and you too - take care.

  17. Well, talk about a cliff hanger for Kristy - probably had everyone hanging on their seats waiting to see if she made it or not - love the way they say they'll tell - but first, let's run a commercial!!

Anyways, she just squeeked by this time altho I thought her perforumance last nite was probably one of the best she has done yet - so glad she has another chance!! Yay Kristy!! :Bwahahaha:

  18. Pit bulls and staff's have a really bad rap/rep. And in some ways it's a shame because there are good pits. B these are dangerous dogs if not trained right - there's no doubt about it, but most of the time, the danger can be directly laid upon the door of the owners. Bad owners/bad dogs. I have 3 pit bulls, a rottie mix and a black lab - all in the same yard next to me, ranging in ages from 2 months to 5 years. All need training and attention but as far as manners, they're sad - barely know down and sit. Bwahahaha I have to go thru the yard to get my mail - or walk around the entire block - so I figured I'd have to get them used to me and have worked with them all so that when I go thru the yard, they don't jump on me or try to eat me alive Bwahahaha Thank god they're not the 'killing' kind!!

I brought Kiya with me to go for a walk a couple of weeks ago - into the yard with all the dogs and there were new problems but the dogs all know me and have learned to sit and take a cookie or whatever - except that poor lab. I swear she's so adhd that she can't keep a thought in her head for more than 2 seconds Bwahahaha Anyways, these pits are good dogs, even without a good leader. The son does what little work is done with the dogs and I would say that he is the reason they're 'good' dogs because he's kind but firm.

I sometimes believe that we simply need to have everyone that wants a dog to have to go thru basic dog training before they get on. If they can't pass, then they don't get the dog. That includes making sure the dog gets the appropriate amount of exercise, discipline and love and have them obedience trained. The people who owned the pits that attacked Coyo and Shunka (and probably others too!) were more than likely from bad owners - at least irresponsible. I'd like to see the owners fined heavily for what has happened - and they should lose their dogs. I don't mean put the dogs down, but given a chance to be redeemed. If they can't be, then no choice I guess but to put them down. which is sad.

Hopefully no more pit attacks for the aidogs! No one needs that!!
