  1. I had some experiences with Sita that I feel moved to share here. Sita is very much her own dog, and it seems like she loves everybody. We've gotten closer and closer over time, and this last week I was shown just how important I am to her in a way that melted my heart. She is an able, if not particularly enthusiastic swimmer. Mostly she likes to splash around where she can stand in water, but she has been willing to swim across a river if that is the way we are hiking together. She does not swim for fun, not yet. I was at a local swimming hole on the Mad River twice this week,

  2. This week Nakoma and I traveled from Pennsylvania to Tennessee for the International Police Working Dog Association Nationals for training and certification. We did not thing Nakoma was going to be able to test since he was the youngest and as a team the newest members of the association. I was going to follow behind another dog who was testing to experience how a test is ran and see other dogs work. Unfortunately this dog was unable to to pick up the scent so his test had to be called off. The master trainer turned to me and told me to get Nakoma, you are going to run this track. So I ran bac

  3. So after a long long journey we are finally home and settling in. As I type this little Chep is sleeping in her crate after a long day of snuggles, piddles, naps and playing. It was really interesting to go out and see the kennels after waiting so long to get a dog of my own (a couple years now). I have known my best friend's AI dog since she was a puppy herself, and we are very close. The whole trip just seemed surreal, especially knowing it was going to go by so fast. If you haven't been out that way before I can tell you it was worth it. I flew into to San Fransisco airport inste

I'll try to take some pics next time he's there. We get SOOO many comments and questions about him when we take him to Lowes, it's funny. He is such a great dog.

This is the first litter for Moe as well as the first litter sired by Shep. Moe and her pups are doing well. Since it has been a while, and I am sure many are wanting to see puppy pictures, below is a rare photo of the litter just hours hold. Moe was very happy to show them off. 12. Hey guys! 'It's been really hectic here so I haven't been able to make as many updates as I would like but here's to Kybers journey as our second pup. I have to say I was very fortunate in this batch of pups, as the one I had my eyes on was chosen for us! Which is honestly just luck considering a picture doesn't tell you anything about personality really. I'm going to give a quick rundown of the process for us this time like I did with Chepi. I had originally planned to fly out again but things in Florida have been crazy as many of you know, so we decided to have the pup shipped this tim

  13. Alright first Puppy Update Post! We were in contact with Kim about these wonderful dogs for over a year and finally got to meet our new little girl on July 8th of this year. My fiance and I drove all the way out to Lake Selmac from Minnesota to attend Kim and Greg's annual gathering, meet other AID owners, and pickup our puppy. The anticipation of meeting our new puppy made the first half of the drive go very fast. Up until meeting all three little pups, we had no idea which puppy Kim had chosen for us. However, when we first met Kim upon arrival, he assured me he had the perfect li

Peter has been apprenticing with Kim for 14 years. He spent several seasons over several years, working alongside Kim at the ranch, and learning about the dogs. He will be following and has become very well versed on our natural selective, sustainable breeding program, passed down from our ancestors. This marks a much anticipated certified European breeder for our American Indian Dogs in Europe. Peter looks forward to connecti

  15. I just wanted to provide a short update to what is going on at Song Dog Kennels. We are slowly coming out of the miserable winter season we have had this year. Sunny days are once again shining down on us here in southern Oregon. We continue to make repairs and remove tree limbs which came crashing down during the winter from the weight of the heavy snows and winds. The grass has turned green, the trees are getting their leaves, the fresh cut grass fills the air and the dogs are out playing and soaking up the sunshine. A couple months ago, things seemed a bit overwhelming and Kim was

  16. Hello! A little late getting to this but I'm finally, officially, introducing Calcifer to the forums. Calcifer is from the last litter (Winter '17) by Nose x Flint. To make up for introducing him so late I'm posting a boatload of photos! For anyone curious, his name comes from one of my favorite movies Howl's Moving Castle (a film by Miyazaki). We call him Cal or Calci for short. Cal is 4 months old, as of 2 days ago, and weighs in at 23-25 pounds. He was the smallest of the litter so I'm curious to see how he compares to his brothers and sisters. When we first got him, his eyes were supe

  17. Well...Kaposia just proved more than worth her weight in gold! She asked to be let out, and it was about time for her last evening "trot." I opened the door and instead of her usual cautious sniff the air and step out gently, she took out like a hound from Hades. I thought, "Oh no, if it's a skunk we're in for some fun tonight!" By the time I reached mid back yard I saw her chase a HUMAN intruder over the back fence! She kept jumping and barking at the corner where he went over, I yelled, "Good dog...you tell 'em!" Then tried to call her in. She'd have none of it....she wanted a piece of the g

  18. It is Aztec and pronounced "Soh-chee". Or, if you want to put the "L stop", "Soh-cheel". She is going through quite the leggy phase right now and I am excited to let her run full speed once she is completely up to date on shots (last one on Friday). Austin is a dog city and so taking her out and about is out of the question since all trails and sidewalks have an innumerable amount of pups on them and I'm paranoid. Almost there though! Being in the house is no longer "enough" for her and she is getting restless. But she is coming of age at a perfect time when our greenbelt is filled to the

  19. Xochitl - or "Soh-chee" or "Soh-cheel" - it means flower/feminine and strength in Aztec. This lovely lady was such a trooper when we flew from Austin, picked her up in Selma, and then drove back home over a period of 4 days. She is the littermate of Zola and weighing in at 11.6lbs at 8 weeks today. It has been a while since we've had a puppy in the house and oh my is she a stubborn one. Shaun and I are learning patience and tough love all over again. I do have to give credit where it is due though. She knows sit, lay down, and sleeps in her kennel through the night. She went thro

We started him off with puppy pads, which he seemed to take to pretty naturally, then we started moving them towards the door, started working the potty bell, and then voila, just as we bought a new set of potty pads, he started using the bell . This weekend we made some agility training equipment, and he's already taking to that, no problem. We were a bit worried at first that he might not like being a house dog, s

  23. Greetings! Here are two pictures of me and and my boy from our most recent hike. We drove out to Jefferson Lake trail head and did an excursion. I've been teaching him to cross logs and streams- he is my trail dog in training. He needs to be able to go wherever I go- up mountains and across rivers! I have him off leash for most of the hikes usually, and he does a good job sticking near me, although this is probably because he is still young enough to need me for protection. My favorite thing to do is hop onto some rocks or island in a shallow section of a river and see him desperately problem

  28. Yesterday we had our first BIG adventure. I'm lucky enough to live super close to Shiloh. His brother Rune came down to visit him and hike at nearby state park. They were nice enough to invite Cal and me to tag along. We were excited to meet THREE adult AI dogs (Shiloh, Rune and Tamarack), to say the least. Cal could hardly contain himself when he met the big boys. It was adorable to see him try to play with each of them in turn and get ignored by all of them. But that did not stop him from trying! We hiked 5 miles which is the longest he ever hiked. He started to get tired half way t

Chepi has completed all the level 1 and 2 training and it is getting time to start making her training more complex and specialized. We we have found out that she is great with puppies and other dogs, has great manners (bowing, playing). My trainer liked her so much we would bring her in to teach other puppies how to socialize! We bought a house! 🎉 It was a long journey for us but the house is beautiful. We hav

He's been home with me now for about 2 weeks and is just a bundle of energy. He has mostly housetrained himself and rarely has any sort of accident. He even runs down the stairs and sits at the back door barking when he needs to go out. I am a disabled Veteran and Darmok will be my Service Dog when he i

There were many AIDog owners, both long time owners and brand new owners. There were also attendees on the waiting list and several who stopped by to check out the dogs in action. I would not be surprised if a few names are added to the waiting list after observing these dogs interacting. As of last night, one puppy left to its new forever home. I would like to thank everyone who attended this year's event. This event would not be successful

  37. Hi all, just wanted to post a long overdue update on my two! It's been a while since I've posted anything, and as many of you know (and were so kindly quick to offer help - thank you again for that!) I was having a series of issues with Rune and his behavior. I am happy to report that he's really come around as he's matured and is shaping up to be a great dog. He has come such a long way it is hard for me to believe at times that he is in fact the same dog I struggled with for so, so long. He still exhibits some of his old behaviors on occasion, but these instances are increasingly few and fa

I am happy to say that she arrived safely and wasn't the least bit affected by her flight. She is such a different puppy than Boone. It amazes me. She came charging out of her crate to take on the world. She hasn't stopped since! Boone was afraid of everything while she afraid of nothing. She torments Boone constantly but he is enjoying it. He will take toys and show them to her. When she goes to get it, he grabs it

She stomps around the house whenever she's happy (ALL the time), so we hear her wherever she is in the house. She's even less of a morning thing than I am! I'll usually get up before her and she'll stay in bed for another hour though, those few days she gets up before me, she demands I get up. She'll roll on my face or pat me on the eye with her paw. Very content to lay around the house for me or hit a trail or park. She's very insistent on going to the park every day, where she'll sit at the front door, l

So many pups going to new homes but I'm sure there are owners still waiting to hear, so I thought I would post an update after our pups first week home (I couldn't get enough puppy pics while I was waiting). We finally settled on his name - Loki it is. He and Mesa have become inseparable and Mesa has grown up so much since his arrival. She sleeps outside his crate and watches over him, but she also tries to take care of her human family too. If she thinks he is getting too rough with one of us, she brings him a toy to distract him then rolls over so he can chew on her instead. If she thinks ei

  44. Hello folks, I wanted to take a moment to officially introduce Maddie to the forum. She is 18 months old and is an inside / outside dog. Maddie spends the days outside with Anoki and Blue Bird and comes inside for the evening after she eats. She enjoys going for rides and visiting with everyone she comes in contact with, particularly kids and she definitely enjoys being the center of attention. Maddie is a Black and Tan female that people really seem drawn to. Many people comment about the tan markings over her eyes which gives me an opportunity to discuss the myth of the "4-eyed"

She then lays down until they stop walking and then she pushes again. One stupid and brave chicken wanted to take a detour around the back of the chicken coop. Elena was quick to dash back the other way and bring the rebel back to the flock without the rest taking off. When the
